There is currently a season of films on Channel 4 and Film Four celebrating the Indian film culture. Never having seen a Bollywood film, but open to anything new, I approached the series with some trepidation.
What a revelation! Over the passed month or so I have seen some of the most beautiful, most dramatic, funniest and most tragic films ever made. And I see a lot of films!
I would urge anyone who thinks that Bollywood means garishly coloured, badly acted, incomprehensible and cheap (as I did!) to watch with me the rest of the summer's offerings and revel in a new discovery.

Hello,
I have obviously missed a lot of treats - we only have a TV/vid combined - and my younger daughter likes to watch Buffy - repeatedly -yes, we have them all! and given my need to paint rather than entertain her - I let her walk all over me and the chances of getting a bit of C4 are slim to none! But I will keep an i out for films of garishness - I love all that colour.
Speak to you later - unless the vampires get me....!

yes, thankyou BAH!
my usually impeccably lovely other person cancelled film four while i was on "hoiday" in a tent with 5 kids (arrange the words "injury to add insult") on the grounds that there was nothing on he wanted to watch (not shown any obscure japanese martial arts movies lately then) and he paid the bill.
oh how i wish i could be sitting around watching bahji on the beach! sob!

That sounds like grounds for divorce to me. I don't know which was worse- cancelling Film Four, or making you stay in a tent with five kids!
BTW there are still plenty more Bollywood films to watch on Channel 4 and I'm sure that Film Four will repeat Bahji on the Beach, seeing as how they made it. So look on the bright side
Then again I saw a really good obscure japanese/chinese martial arts film last night.....

tee hee!
i'll just have to watch out for them on C4 i spose....
unfortunetly, i can't divorce him, as we havn't *actually* got round to getting married yet......the thought of his mother and my mother in the same room makes me cold and panicky, to say the least.....
anyway, he's quite pretty and decorative to have aaround.....and he has just come home and brought me a cup of tea....
i could put up with a lot for a constant supply of tea......

Did you know that recently some Bollywood producers/directors/actors have been implicated in a scandal with the mob? Didn't get a lot of details... I saw the story on Comedy Central's The Daily Show... But apparently some arrests have been made! Strange, huh?

PS:welcome to H2G2 Akira! I assume you're nickname refers to the anime (or manga) of the same name. If you like movies, you should try your hand @ my newly formed movie quotes game which can be found @ A809958. (I'm trying to recruit some contestants and to get the ball rolling... so I'm providing hints for the first few quotes.) All are welcome! Good luck and happy hunting!
