One less in the family as the duck succumbs - apparently to the cold weather.
2004 will see my 50th birthday, I should do something significant.
Suggestions ?

It was a runner duck (stands up like its trying to peer over a wall and runs rather than waddles - the type they use on those sheepdog trials)
Conversation with 4 year old
Adult - Beatrix isn't going to live in the garden anymore
4yrold - Why ?
Adult - Well he was a bit bored because we didn't have a pond
4yrold - Has he gone to live at the duck pond ?
Adult - No. He's gone a long way away.
4yrold - He's dead isn't he ?
Adult Ah ?
But no he wasn't upset - I suspect more questions will arise at some point.

Wow - my hubby keeps Indian runners too! We have one drake & two ducks (Donald, Daisy & Dora). There used to be Dolly too but she succumbed to a mystery illness in 2002.
PS I'm going to be 50 this year too. Double celebration eh? All I've organised so far is to have the day off work.

What foresight. I was thinking of a ladies' lunch if my pals aren't working - so I guess we'll be recovered by the morning!

i love indian runners.
we had an aylesbury duck and a silver appleyard drake. she was such a raucous, demanding creature. he had a lovely gentle quack and a personality to match.
50 eh? one foot in the grave and the other on a banana skin

It's also our 25th wedding anniversary early this year, but I haven't got much enthusaism to organise anything. Hubby seems keen so I'll wait & see if he manages any arrangements
I think it's a bad time of year. Miss elder son (just returned to uni) more than when he left in October
I hear that 50 is the new 40

I was at a meeting the other day and two of the guys were talking about funerals they'd been to recently.
"seems to me that the fifties are the most dangerous age - if you can get to 60 you stand a chance."
Gee thanks guys.

Exactly what date are we talking here, oh disorganised one, and, for that matter, Teasswill. Got to be able to wish you happy thingies, haven't we?
50 to me is but a distant memory all you young whippersnappers make me feel old.
So what dates then?

26th for me. I have a bottle of Smirnoff Blue Label standing by for some freshly squeezed orange juice.
