First, upon further inspection, it would seem we are actually dealing with a *male* kitten.

It would also seem that there is the possibility of coming to an agreement.

Njan wants to name the kitten Cinak, for, 'Cat is not a kitten.' (think Gnu, you geeks out there).

I find this hard to roll off the tongue. I suggest a host of DS9 related names, particularly favoring Sisko (Cisco) for it being doubly geeky. Njan is unimpressed.

Later I mention in passing that 'Mittens' would be cute. That way, we could have our cats with the three nicknames of 'Kits, Mits, and Twits.' smiley - biggrin. Njan softens slightly.

Our 6-year-old steps in at this point, with the perfect solution. Much like us, Joseph says, the cats can have more than one name. Njan and I eye each other. This could work. The cat needs a respectable legal name, for vet appointments and such, and for this 'Mittens' is the obvious choice. For his special Njan pet name, his middle name can be 'Cinak.'

Nothing finalized of course, but this may be resolved without the hiring of lawyers yet. smiley - smiley

Ah, but if you consider the name Cinak as pronounced "SIN ACK" it could also have a double entrende of "SYN ACK" which is a networking term. My vote is for Cinak.

I think he was thinking along those lines, but I'm not so geeky that I'd have any idea what he was talking about so promptly forgot smiley - biggrin.

No, vote for the unified naming!

But I gotta stand by my geek brother on this one. The double geek meaning (the acronym and the syn-ack) is just too tempting to pass up. I also kinda sorta hate the name mittens for cats, but that is just me.

Saying it outloud sounds too much like saying 'snack.' This is the reason for the 'reasonable legal name.' I don't want the vet's secretary to go, 'huh?!?!' when I tell her the kitten's name..if Njan were the one taking the cats to the vets, well, fine...

I think Snack is quite an adorable name for a kitten - and Njan can spell it any way he likes so you both win . . . smiley - winkeye

It's sort of funny..he's gotten attached to the name Mittens. He walks around playing with the kitten, saying, 'Mittens T Kittennnn!' and goes all soppy. Apparently, the T is for Terran or something, not sure. smiley - silly
