Haylle (Nyssabird) ? mg to recovery

Errrr

Silly me, in the haze of moving house and getting ready for our trip to the States and the kids finishing up school, I didn't get around to registering them with their new primary school. Same as last year, if you don't do so, don't bother calling the council, because they will tell that there's no one to help until the *day before school starts*. I'm not annoyed so much for myself but for the teachers and administrators. I recall last year the sense of semi-panic as they tried to accommodate all the students. I felt bad because I got the sense that my two kids who were legitimately in the catchment area would be displacing kids whose parents would have, to that point, been mentally picturing how the school year would go. It seems it's going to be the same situation in this school because it's 'highly sought after.' If I could register them in the summer, at least get their names on the list of must-enrolls, it might save people some stress. Ah well. I don't remember people being able to pick and choose primary schools in the states, how and why did this become common practice over here? That said, maybe it precludes the need for fee schools if fussy parents feel that they have some control. In any case, oi.

I'm not really here

It's been going on for ages, but don't bank on getting into your local school - if it's already full they won't turf someone off who has already got a place, they'll send your kids to the nearest one that has a space. If it's miles away you might be entitled to travel for the kids.

On the other hand, they might have a space and no need to worry.
