..myself from the handle Nyssa. Whilst I have been using it for, oh, 15 years ot so for various purposes, when my first husband officially gave the nickname to our daughter, it was only a matter of time before it all became confusion. So...I'm trying things out.
Maelia is a far-fetched translation of my real name, Hawaiian for peaceful, and Hina is Hawaiian for the goddess of fish. If you know about me and my other half, you might have an inkling why the word fish is significant .
You like it? I suppose there's a bounty of alternatives if you don't

Oh, it will take some getting used to! You are *so* Nyssa to me! I thought of a little girl I know (daughter of my friend Rebecca) whose name is Miro (a Maori word, I don't know what it means, but Mir is the Russian for peace...)
I was at school with a girl called Hina, and she was a bit of b*tch, which is why I am in two minds about your new name. But that's just my opinion...

I'm concerned there could be some copyright issues, as Hina is a bit like Mina. And can we have something that's easy to spell? We like to pick on you by name.

Hmm..I think the trouble is in the hypenation. I think of it like my last name. Technically it's a long hypenated thing, but I'm lazy and just use the first part.

I'd think you British would be all over the 'ae' being as how you like to spell 'faerie' and 'anaesthesia' and whatnot.

Maelia. It'll be difficult to get used to the name. But I like it...
Ivan (who has no interesting names to fall back on).
