Author's note:
Conforming to usual practise, and because I feel like it, this entry will be written in the style of a pretentious, pompous b*****d; mainly as practise for English writing. Anyone who feels that I AM a pretentious, pompous b*****d will not be missed.
So, my friends, it appears that, once more, we have reached the summer months, and more importantly, the summer holidays. A time of fun, new experiences and reflection, I've come to think.
I've never been in any doubt that the greatest purpose of august is, until around the age of twenty-two, to have fun. Whether it be loitering with friends, amigos and hombres, going to the beach, visiting the cinema, going hot-air ballooning in Chile, or attending a cheese-tasting contest; go out of your way to enjoy yourself, particularly during this summer; The last which anybody in the same school year as myself will have beginning and ending with school. After this, it all gets very disjointed, and we should therefore do our utmost to capitalise upon these precious next six weeks.
I believe that one of the greatest ways to have fun is to try new things. This year, my personal new experiences will be crowned by a week's holiday; not with family, but friends. It's nothing glamourous, but I'm looking forward more than I've looked forward to anything since Christmas before I was told that Santa doesn't exist (they were wrong, by the way). There's time to be killed - use it wisely, get out there, and do something new and exciting.
Summer is also a great time for reflection. A time for, a review of the last year, for self-reformation and contemplation, and for self-repair from the challenges and trials of the last year in preparation for those of the next. However, reflection can extend enormously beyond the individual. Instead, "reflection" broadly encompasses thinking about anything and everything. Theoretically, the themes of reformation, contemplation and repair extend to anything you like in life, although not necessarily in a philosophical manner. Ultimately though, all three boil down to improvement and preparation for the future, which is something which I hope to do in a serious fashion over the next month-and-a-bit.
Yours (and mine),
Alberto.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
