Zen Materialism
Noggin the Nog Started conversation Jul 14, 2002
Philosophy is much too important to be taken seriously.
The road to enlightenment is long and arduous, Grasshopper.
Clarity is the path to inner peace.
The universe is a self-consistent set of rules.
Dualism is not a serious point of view with which to contend; it is a stick with which to beat one's opponents.
The universe is not like anything; it is only like something to be a consciousness in the universe.
Language is the form of perception of thought.
All human life is normative.

that was in the book I just read: this guy was going a bit loony [to put it bluntly] and kept going on about the repetition of mondays!

I thought that was Groundhog Day?
And I know today's Tuesday, but waiting two days to answer is definitely cheating and bad karma. Unless tomorrow turns out to be Tuesday, too.

Absolutely fascinating!!
I do love philosophy, but have trouble living with it. It all makes sense on paper, but the reality doesnt match the pictures, if you know what i mean. You probably don't .... oh well, nice to read something intriguing!!

Hi Redz. Actually I do know what you mean. Bad philosophy is the problem.
Good philosophy is like a good stew. It should be simmered long and slow, and NEVER boiled.

Thank you! It's an old children's cartoon character from so long ago that I can hardly remember it.
Good philosophy; hmmm... Have you ever done any philosophy? How old are you? (I know one shouldn't ask such questions of a lady, but it all depends on what you already know.)
Philosophy isn't really about "learning" stuff; it's a way of looking at things. If you're new to it try any short introductory text.
Otherwise - my favourite philosophers are Kant, Schopenhauer, Wittgenstein and Dennett; but the only way to go is to do some philosophizing yourself and to chat with the like minded.
Most importantly - it takes time; (Hence the stuff about stews - slow but sure).

well, im old enough!! he he! well i'm in my 2nd year of A level philosophy, so i know a little, although i find the rejections of the arguments as acceptable as the arguments themselves, which is a little frustrating at times!!!
i will take a note of those philosophers you mentioned, i've heard of a couple of them.
thanks, and, how old are you?? he he!!

Well, if you must know I'm mumble, mumble. Oh, alright, next birthday is the big 50. Positively ancient, though I don't feel a day over 45.
Good rule of thumb. If two opposite answers to a question seem equally reasonable there's probably something wrong with the question.
As in "Exactly. How can you expect to understand the answer if you don't understand the question."
