yay, is it by any chance a cake with jelly babies and choccy buttons round it?
Hippy Burpday and all that.
3 yrs? You must have been barely out of school when you joined

Although you're right in a way Icky, I'd run away from a primary classroom a couple of months before I turned up here.
The has chocky buttons on it, but I'm afraid to say that only the red jelly babies made it onto the cake - the rest mysteriously dissapeared!

pressies? You want pressies?
Hmm, well, in that case I think you should wait here for the present.
No moving, mind!

I can't see much of a future in just standing here.....
*moves to one side and looks up*
Especially not in that particular spot.
Am also mildly concerned about the alarm that seems to be going off in one of the adjacent buildings - I wonder if I'm in for an exciting graveyard shift.

what sort of alarm? Fire alarm? Bunglar alarm (alerts one to inept burglers)? Car alarm? Diverse alarums?
Is this all just a dream and that sound is really your bedside alarm and its really time for you to wake up and go to work?

I'm sure I've been here all day.
*bangs head on desk*
Hmmm, yes I'm awake.
It's one of those old janggly bell alarms - I've no idea what it's for though. I've wondered round to the back of the canteen and one of our caretakers is standing outsdie and looking very efficient with a couple of other suited types to keep him company so it's probably just a bunglar alarm.

ah.
Not the batphone then? Or, in your case, the Odophone, calling you to some emergency where a studnet has stolen a book?
I just thought, my unumber is lower than yours, I guess that means I've been here over 3 years myself now. Ho hum.

Nothing to do with my building at all. No one gets out through my front door with a .
I'm off to collect rather a large delivery of brand new unopened books tomorrow. Hope they'll all fit in the back of the car. Then to a joyous afternoon of dewying them up and soaking up that loverly new book smell.
When were you ACEd? They usually seem to get to people within a few hours of them joining.

I wasn't ace'd well, not until quite a while later. But then that's prob cos I lurked the site for quite a while before joining, and only joined when I wanted to post a comment, hence removing myself from the ace's list.
I did post once pre-rupert but think I had to recreate my account post rupert so that's lost.

Hmmm, earliest subscribed convos are from the end of 2001 but I distinctly using h2g2 at my previous job which was back in 98.
I also remember there being entire threads in finnish and other languages so it must have been pre bbc (yep, rupert was the bbc takeover).
