Straight to the point!

first with map and then without map

I have topographical memory. if I have been some where I can walk it again without map or atleast I could before my eyes went bad!

I know that feeling, I've more chance of actually getting somewhere if I'm not given a map than if I'm expected to navigate using one.

my next door neighbour is going Southern England by car

....I might sugest to write down list of names of big cities and some smaller places, but go over B-roads to see the beauty of Southern England. if he gets lost he looks for big city name to find himself again.

As long as they're good a planting signposts in that area.

I cycled in South Downs for 4 days...I saw quiet a few signes for big cities and smaller places

...but no signs for campings, but you can always ask people in the neighbourhood of camping, if they only knew where the campings around corners were!

I loved the B-roads in South England...not cycle without motorised tho

Hope the weather stays nice for you. It's warm out at the moment if you can get out of the wind. I'll be coming home from the 'frozen North' with a suntan at this rate!
