h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Ok, so I'm a day away from finishing the first draft of this new book. To be perfectly honest, my first book.

Give a few more weeks for editing and illustrations, and then bing, all finished.

Then what?

How do I find a publisher? Do I look in the book store for similar style books and write to them? Do I submit to them one at a time? That would make sense. Should I try and publish my own. No that wouldn't work for this style of book. I want it out in time for the winter holiday buying spree, so maybe, mid to late November.

I'm going to type some more book, then when my head hurts, vindeloo because I accidentally defrosted my freezer yesterday and have sooo much chicken. After that, I might finish my bottle of red wine and then return to the wonderful web and see if anyone has talked to me. Sounds fun, eh?

Congratulations on finishing your book. This is something I am trying to do at the moment, so I appreciate how much effort is involved.

If you are trying to get it published, I found the book 'From Pitch to Publication' by Carole Blake useful. The Writers' and Artists' Yearbook published by A & C Black is also good for lists of publishers, agents, and stuff like that.

One thing that seems to have worked quite well for me was writing to the author of a book I admired, asking him who his agent was. The chap wrote a very useful letter back after only a fortnight, giving loads of handy details. So you could do worse than to give this sort of thing a go.
