The joys of buying a house eh? We had just signed our contract and were ready to exchange when the guy selling the house to us said he had had to pull out of his own buying situation. it turns out that the chap selling that house to him suddenly asked for more money so he withdrew the offer. We still have the house (the people have to sell) and no one has asked for more money (yet, good: because we'd have to withdraw) but we will now have to wait another couple of months to see if he can find something he can afford to move in to with his family.

I saw you in the Moving thread, and I thought I'd pop by. You look like a gal after my own heart, though almost certainly more knowledgable about 70s and 80s rock than I will ever be.

What is happening about the move? Having been through it all earlier this year I am full of fellow-feeling and a general willingness to hold hands.

Well, since you're here, I shall update you. We found a loverly new house last week, put an offer in, had it accepted and told the other folks to get knotted. This new house, although more expensive and probably slightly beyond our finances, is far better. I'm hoping this will all go through smoothly as the chain is very small. We should be in early November. Hurrah!
