Just started with this h2g2 thing. Actually I started long ago before I'd ever heard of h2g2 or DA, there was something. Not a researcher as such more an observer in me. In the Yorkshire tradition of see all hear all say nowt I've always been "quiet". But more goes on than observation there was this confused process going on, something that tried to rationalise and capture the essence of "it". Perhaps that is why when Deep Thought finally came up with the essence of life the universe and everything it struck a chord with my confusion.

Now I am a professional researcher, a small cogg in a huge chemicals corporation but with this window on the world and now, today of all days, a small cogg in the h2g2. Wow!

Welcome to the Earth Edition of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I'm an Assistant Community Editor (ACE) and it's my job to help you settle in and help out in anyway I can. Click the reply button below this post if you'd like to answer, otherwise, enjoy your stay.

You might like to check out http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A559523. It's a page I've written that has some links you might find useful. If you'd like to visit me, click my name at the top of this post and you'll come directly to my personal space.

If you click on the edit button and write a short introduction then other researchers can come to your space to welcome you.

Thanks ACE for the welcome, sure it's a bit like an automated response, but I get the feeling you're a real person, and at least I'm thankful I've not been welcomed by a Vogon. I hope too that you are going to make sure that I don't get thrown out of the airlock, well, at least not until I've listened to some poetry.

I've been a bit impulsive already and thrown in my few peneth to the pot of confused ramblings, totally out of character. I hope they stimulate something somewhere in the collective consciousness of Deep Thought mk.II that will bring us closer to an understanding of our lot.

Looking at your space reminded me. A few weeks ago I could have been seen in Paris bump starting an old and heavy motorbike down by the Bastille, I'd still be there if not for the kind assistance of a Japanese tourist. I'd just like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the fellow, Thanks.

And another thing...

... Well that's probably enough for now.

Sorry it seems like an automated response. It's hard to think of something new to say every time. I did post an original bit at the bottom though. smiley - smiley

I'll try my best to keep you from shooting out of the airlock, it's something that takes a bit of trying, especially if you haven't heard any poetry beforehand. smiley - biggrin

Glad to see you made it out of Paris, it's a nice place to visit, but I was glad to get home.

Hello smiley - smiley

Are you still in Yorkshire? We may have to induct you into the Flat Cap and Mufflers Club.

Not Yorkshire, I was born there so maybe I qualify for the flat cap anyway.
Thanks for the welcome, I was just gathering my thoughts to write an intro about where I live, what I like, (there's not a lot that I dislike). It's a bit like being a crash investigator with a pile of wreckage trying to make sense of what happened. The process is not an easy one.

Don't worry too much about the words. They can be changed later. But, if you do something with your user space, people will be able to pop in to say hi.

Amy Pawloski, aka 'paper lady'--'Mufflewhump'?!? click here to find out... (ACE)

Well, if this Researcher (I'm bad with names, but worse with numbers) wants to attend the veggie meets, sending pictures works, doesn't it, Amy the Ant? (How're you today, hon?) Normally, I just call Amy the Ant Amy, but I didn't want to look like I was tlking to myselfsmiley - winkeye...

Anyway, welcome! Drop by my space if you want an explanation of 'paper lady'...Or of pictures working, for that matter...

Hi Amy
Thanks for the welcome, you know everyone's been so friendly, makes me feel right at home, motherhood and Nesselrode pie and all that.

Like you I'm more or less permanently plugged into the world from my desk and being a professional researcher (as well now as a h2g2 researcher) sends me a bit crazy sometimes. You know there’s all this interconnected stuff that runs through time and space. Like the Amazonian butterfly changing next weeks weather. It’s not exactly total perspective vortex but it’s enough to show that we are all responsible for what happens next just as we are powerless to predict any of it.

I thought the "paper lady" connection would be a bit like being a "paper millionaire" that you were somehow less than a real lady, or maybe something to do with predictably losing at paper, scissors, rock, by always being paper; but no, a real case of art substituting for life.

By the way, can you get me the recipe for a Vegetarian roast turkey (a la Thanksgiving) ? I do a big Christmas dinner for 30-40 people each year. Maybe this year if I use a corn fed turkey I could call it bio-processed vegetarian?

Cheers

Which Amy are you answering? Looks like both smiley - winkeye Amy the Ant is the one in Yorkshire--I'm in California (thus the picture thingy). Not that I mind being mistaken for a close friend...

The turkey--Why don't you post the question to 'Ask h2g2'? I'm far from being a vegetarian myself...Even if I did attend Humboldt State University...(And no, if you talk to that person you know in northern California, I didn't sample Humboldt County's most well known product smiley - winkeye)

OK, I found out who it was I was thinking of...Now I just have to figure out why I thought you were him...

(As you probably noticed, I tend to give more info than is strictly needed...smiley - winkeye)

I'm getting more confused now (not difficult) , it’s a reply to Amy the paper picture lady.
There’s nothing I know of Humboldt County's most well known product but I did hear College Cove was a good place to start. Is that what you mean.
And you’re right I don’t know anyone from California except you and the beach boys

You'll have to excuse Amy P., Researcher 184146, she's probably as mad as a smiley - fish.

Talking of smiley - hsif, could it be time for you to think of a catchier name? Many researchers find that they are fish and I do recommend an animal theme because then I can include you in the Great and Wonderful h2g2 Natural History Museum http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A416819smiley - smiley.
