That is true. But it's also true that one should not allow another to make one unhappy...
And since people are hard to change, better to not be around such people.
(Bitter? Who, me? Yes please )

Yup: I totally agree, Milla. That's why I have cut ties recently with G. But it's easier said than done sometimes
It's such a shame we're not all perfect, isn't it?

Fb - 'Are women particularly likely to take on other people's emotional welfare because we are the nurturers and carers in society?' Probably - we aren't all, but I suspect that a majority are. The Miracle Question is one that's been in my mind for a lot of the day. How would it be if I were slimmer - I wouldn't be eating as much for comfort as I would already have more energy (the virtuous circle) and I would be more confident around people (different miracle question) as I wouldn't be as defensive. I tried it with little about having more friends this morning. I'll see if it makes any difference tomorrow.
Websailor 'I have heard it said that no-one else can make you happy and it is too much to expect of them, so it works the other way round too. R's unhappiness is mostly of his own making.' Oh yes!
Milla - 'it's also true that one should not allow another to make one unhappy... And since people are hard to change, better to not be around such people.' Totally agree. Often the one thing that makes a difference is a change of environment (and I'm counting people as environment here).
'we're not all perfect' - - probably we are - we just don't know it!

Well I was, once. For about two minutes after birth until I found out where I had ended up and there was no going back. I have been a ever since (so they tell me!)

'For about two minutes after birth until I found out where I had ended up' - well, that's environment for you. Professor Danny Dorling says that his research shows that 'where a person is born remains the primary determinant of their status, health and wealth in later life.' Splitting up with R has prompted me to really look at the background elements to who I am.
