Signs of adult life approaching.

Actually, you never see them approaching. You move from one state to another in such a smooth transition that one day you will simply realise that you own, say, garden furniture.
It just gradually dawns on you that at some point in the recent past, you have hankered for garden furniture, given in to that hankering, and never until just now questioned the wisdom of it. I mean, garden furniture? Since when did I start deciding to spend money on furniture I can only use every now and again because it's outside all the time? What's the point?
The sofa is, after dark, the most used piece of furniture in the house (barring beds). Why didn't I spend the money I had for garden furniture on some kind of add-on for the sofa? Instead, I sit on the sofa, looking at the garden furniture sitting outside with no-one sitting on it.
Is it a sign that we in the West have become too wealthy? Individually I am not a (financially) wealthy man at all, but as a member of a society that can afford to wantonly purchase furniture that will be (in the UK at least) sat on for only half a year (absolute tops), and left out to the mercies of the climate for the rest of the time, I begin to wonder.
It's nearly 01.00 o'clock now, and I'm getting fed-up of this screen. I'm going to sit out on my bench and look at the sofa for a while.

Another sign is the fact that you think the smiley - weird aspect of owning the garden furniture is the financial wastefulness one.

Another is owning the garden in the first place, and yet another is the fact that you'll only sit on the garden furniture in fair weather (Not said in JE, I agree, but certainly implied).

I don't believe I mentioned owning a garden. I am merely the steward. As is my cat, Peter.

Sounds good. Although surely not caring what anyone thinks about you is better than wishing they think something specific about one's character. smiley - erm That is to say I hope you are a happy child. You sound happy. And that can only be good.
