I didn't know that sitting on the cold road could be fun - and worthwhile. But yesterday, it was.
Following an email from Globalise Resistance Scotland, around 200 people congregated in Bristo Square, just outside Edinburgh University. Comedian/Activist Mark Thomas duly arrived, and explained what we were doing here - information is available at the 'Ilisu Dam' link somewhere above me (textually speaking).
The original plan was to confront A Certain Construction Company at a nearby careers fair, and embarrass them by handing out leaflets that detail their dirty deeds. Unfortunately (and also encouragingly) they were scared off, packing up and leaving before 12pm. This left us at a bit of a loose end - all these people ready for action, and nowhere to protest.
All was not lost - This Certain Construction Company are currently working in Edinburgh, and we held an impromptu sit-down protest outside the site, blocking traffic in and out for around two hours. Which is as long as any sane man would brave the Edinburgh weather at the moment. It wasn't the most spectacular or effective protest, but it marked a beginning of more sustained action - expect more in the coming months. smiley - biggrin

Will do, Matty - although you can find out through the Ilisu dam link on my page. I'm not sure if I can mention Balfour Beatty by name here, y'see.

Oops.

Mister Matty

I heard this, very good news smiley - smiley

Sadly, didn't save those Roman mosaics smiley - sadface But did manage to save loads of Kurds from being flung out of their homes and generally treated like scum, as usual. I heard Mark Thomas talking about it on the news tonight and he sounded pretty jubilant.
