Sleep Apnea

Over night stay in hospital to begin treatment for the sleep apnea. I have done all he checks and they show that my breathing is too shallow, that I stop breathing and my blood/oxygen level drops too low when I'm asleep.

The apnea is unpleasent inasmuch as I wake up many times during the night and I tend to fall asleep during the day. I have fallen asleep whilst walking and I can't drive far on my own in case I dose off.

The stay in hospital wont be unpleasent but I will be linked up to a computer that will calibtate a machine which will pump air into my lungs and keep the oxygen level normal. Once calibrated, I will be able to bring it home.

The British spelling is apnoea.
There are many web-sites about the problem.

sleep apnoea is a bit of a family trait for us but thankfully only very mild. Often partners have to nudge us to get us breathng again!! Thankfully I've had no bad episodes for years!! So sorry to hear yours has got as far as hospitalisation.

It was only an over-night stay to set my cpap unit. The mask can make some people claustrophobic but I have no trouble with it. It's nice just to feel alive again. smiley - zzz

Very scary when you are driving a Transit van between Aberystwyth and Neath on twisting country roads and you can't keep your eyes open.

Alji this happens to me too.

Do you wake up with a nasty gasp or sometimes a shriek?
Do you have a sensation of...hm how to describe it?
Blackness rushing at you, is about as good as I can get.
Went to doctor and said I wake up three , four times a night, he said with all his doctorly wisdom, We all breathe more shallowly at night . To which I replied "Yes I know, I've been breathing for a long time now and this is a new thing, He could care less.

Tell him you want to see a specialist Hass. If he won't refere you get another doctor.

My wife a my daughter told me to see my doctor because they could see that I was stopping beathing and then taking a big gasp of breath. My blood/oxygen level was too low as well.
