Why are URL's banned?

They claim that URLs must be banned in conversations because it would be too hard for the censors to double-check them all and make sure they don't point to naughty pages. If they restrict us to using URLs on guide entries or personal space, then they don't have so many to double-check. (By the way, you can use them inside your regular guide entries and in your personal space still.)

Of course, they could just go back to "reactive" moderation (after somebody complains) instead of pro-active moderation, and they could remove naughty URLs after people complain. But they're more worried about protecting us than they are worried about letting us talk openly with each other.

For all it's worth, they say right in the House Rules that the thing with URLs is only a temporary "test." They may ease up in the future and let us put URLs everywhere.
