SHOE + SOCK?

I am the old woman who lived in a shoe. Except i have no shoe,or am i old.
I do have the children which often leaves me in a place where i'm not sure what to do.
More shoe business:
Why is there often one shoe on a street corner?
Where is the owner?
Where is the other shoe?
Why is it on it's own?
How does one loss a shoe?
If you yourself has had an experience of this nature, please indulge my preoccupation. Otherwise any idea's are most welcome.
Today i saw one sock! What's that about?

They must be relatives of the single glove lifeform - you've seen them everywhere I'm sure. Their natural habitat is fence posts and railings. No one knows how they get there and they never seem to move ... I think they are nocturnal.
Then there are the old trainers that hang from telephone lines at the end of streets. They're a bit sedentary as well. I think they hunt in pairs and swoop down on their prey from above.

The glove crew could be the clue to the one shoed victm, as they have the capacity to remove footwear from an unexpected passer-by.
Could they also have the hynothrepy skills to delude these poor unexpected people into thinking they still have two shoes, which would account for the fact that no one has ever reported such a crime?

Oh yes .... completed my move to the US safely and caught up with the backlog. Still have a pile of stuff to do but have broken the back of things and am basking in a very temporary sense of achievement right now
... and you - family behaving themselves ?
