Can I be the only person to have noticed this terrible thing about life:
However much kak there is crushing you down and messing you up, there's always more where that came from.
I've never understood that sickly phrase, "Never mind - it could be worse." It's about the least comforting thought imaginable, for anyone who's already up to their neck in it - and knows that if it can get worse then it certainly will get worse.
Anyway. I just wanted to get that out of my system. And where else could I deposit such a negative sentiment. Thank goodness for h2g2.

I sympathize Tibley,
I had just saved enough for my next course of violin lessons and had called Stephanie to let her know I could start again when I heard a strange noise coming from my water heater. Probably just a fitting that needs tightening, could be worse. Well, it was the tank itself had rusted through.
Shopped a new tank, over $300. What a coincidence, just what I had saved for school!
Oh well, could be worse. Got the old tank out, it had been leaking for some time and the floor is rotted through! Haven't shopped that one yet. I just don't want to know.
I also don't want to think about how much I spent to buy the water ,then heat it so it could rot my floor.
Also, it's winter here. Still no hot water. Cold showers. Brrrrrr

I just realized that I've given you something to post on the Petty Hates thread.
People who tell their own horror stories when what you want is for them to acknowlege that you're the one who's hurting here.

Someone said to me ' It doesn't matter what vehicle you're in, if you're on the road to Hell, that's where you're going'
I pointed out that every road has two directions.

Ayup Tumsup That's not one of my petty hates. It was just what I needed. A different sort of problem. We all have them and since we can only really experienc our own, we can get too focused on how bad our particular one is. Yours is a shortage of dosh and mine's pain. The idea of you scraping together just enough for your violin lessons, only to have to spend it on something as annoying as a hot water tank changed my focus. I sympathise And I'm in quite a good position to sympathise as a matter of fact. Last winter I discovered my header tank (the tank above the immersion heater tank) had sprung a small leak at some point and all the towels and bed linen in the airing cupboard were damp and covered in rust stains. I got a plumber in to change it at considerable expense. A couple of months later the immersion heater packed in with a bang. I still haven't got that sorted out. Decided I could just have showers instead of baths and boil a kettle for washing up.
Hey oldrustbucket. I shall carefully consider the birds and the squirrels

Ah, the crossroads. If you go there with the right attitude, you may meet a man who will offer you a contract. And if you sign it, it may save you the cost of further music lessons. And if you get one of the new British ID cards with ALL your personal information on it, including your DNA 'finger print', you may not even have to sign the contract with your own blood. The devil may be prepared to just take a swipe of your card because it'll have all the information carried in your blood in any case.
Or am I thinking of the wrong crossroads
