Ok..two things have happened very recently, one very minor..and one very major. The minor thing is that i finished 'Only Forward' the debut novel of Michael Marshall Smith last night...can i just tell people that the labyrinthine plot, outrageous wit and occasionally terrifying violence make it one of the best books i've ever read..i thouroughly reccomend it.
Anyway, the major thing will probably take longer to talk about. I worked out on holiday (camping with Ventures in Torquay) last week that I actually (because of money my mum gives me on Direct debit) get paid a small fortune every year (it may not sound like much, but I get a total of over three grand a year for working for 6 hours a week...and my work involves sitting in a near silent bookshop for six hours...doing nothing). This led me to reconsider the way i use this money (currently i spend it...generally on alcohol). I thought that saving was in order..all i had to work out now was what to save for..the first option was University..which seems far too sensible and obvious to me....so not my kind of thing (i'm gonna go to university..i just don't want to be too sensible about preparing for it..that's not the way i do things). A few days later, after an offhand comment by a friend, i remembered something that had slipped from the forefront of my mind recently, an old dream i had once. IT started on my work experience..when I got to play around with Samplers making music for a week. From then on...i kept on telling myself i wanted to do Music Technology and be a sound engineer type...so i could fund a private hobby that would hopefully make me money, that being the manufacture of computer music.
This idea returned to me at the end of last week(minus the bit about being a sound engineer...about five of my mates are planning on doing that...i wanna be different) and i decided i would start saving up money to buy myself a software music studio..the hardware to run it..and then start building up a selection of hardware devices to complement the Software...so i couold have (eventually) a software sampler and a nice hardware one too...for the sake of the added stability (especially as I run everything under windows). Anybody who's interested..or knows more than me about what i'm talking about should reply to this...and I'll give more details of the kit I'm planning on getting and what i plan to do with it. Also anybody who's doing a short (6month) computer music course to give there opinion on it would be much appreciated anyway..gotta go
