GMail & Opera
GreyDesk Started conversation Mar 5, 2005
GMail now comes with a basic HTML setting which means that I can now use the service with Opera 7.x
This means that I now never need to IE ever again
And when Opera 8 is released in a few months time, GMail will be fully supported by all accounts.

I was. It's all a bit unfortunate really.
I got to Kerr's at about 8pm last night. She and Bruce were down the pub and expecting a call from me. Unfortunately Kerr had given me the wrong mobile phone number, so I was stuck.
At around 10pm, and after checking a number of local pubs, I left a note for Kerr and came home. My thinking being that Kerr is not a girl who is a great respecter of licensing laws, so I had no idea what time they would be back if I remained hanging around outside her house.
When I got home there was an e-mail waiting for me from Kerr with the right number. I spoke to her and Bruce in the early hours, and we agreed that if I felt OK I would go up today. Sadly my knees are badly swollen after yesterday's efforts, and there is no way that they'll take another 200+ mile drive.
On that basis it means that no, I'm not at the East Midlands meet

How irritating for you.
I take it you're not being bombarded by nuisance phone calls from Burton, then? I am.

No I'm not.
I phone Kerr at about half-two to say that the knees weren't going to be up to it
I tried a drive at about 9 this morning and again at about 1pm. Both times I didn't manage more than about 15 miles before the pain got too much

Nearly 20 years ago I had a massive operation on my right leg to get rid of a tumour.
It has left the leg a slightly different length to my other one, and also slightly warped. Over the years these flaws have put unusual wear on both knee joints which means that I can spend too long with my knees bent at between 90 and 120 degrees - ie the position that you're in whilst you drive.
On the upside I'm still alive

My Granddad had one leg shorter than the other - he had a bullet taken out of it when he was young. Many Many Years later my Grandmother ended up with one leg shorter than the other, due to having a replacement replacement hip operation. They both got built up shoes - not sexy, but it made it a bit easier to walk about.
To go back to the original topic - I'm using Opera 8 now. :D

That would be one of the two beta versions I presume
As I'm no sort of a developer, and not the sort of person who when a piece of software goes phut asks why did that happen. I'm not going to play with Opera 8 until it's fully fixed.

I just wanted to try it. The only new thing I've noticed is that the tabs 'close' bit is on the tab itself. I'm trying to work out whether I like it or not.
One of the things I prefer about Firefox is that when you close tabs, it doesn't take you backwards to the first tab again, like Opera does - it goes round in a little circle before it goes back to the first one. I bet I'm not making sense there.

GreyDesk Posted Mar 6, 2005
Yes you are making sense.
I find it quite hard to describe the setup and operation for Opera. There are so many diferent skins, and you can arrange stuff within the in so many different ways, that there is no way that two people will have the same browsing experience. Hence no two descriptions are going to be the same.

Maybe I should start using Opera again When 7.0 came out I had problems with it when viewing Hootoo forums, and 7.1 didn't work any better That's when I started using Mozilla. I know my Opera key is buried somewhere in a bunch of emails I saved and burned to disc... or it might be on an old hard drive somewhere

I'm ever so sorry GD, all my fault. The meet log (which will be posted tomorrow) wil clearly show that fact.
Although I have to ask- why didn't you try the pub you knew we were going to Saturday night?
And B- err, the first call was my fault, blame assorted drunked reprobates for the rest

GreyDesk Posted Mar 9, 2005
Because I had expected to be with your good self, I had not taken down the names of the pubs for the meet. I sort of assumed that you know the way there
