Alive but Shaken
Mr. Cogito Started conversation Sep 11, 2001
It has been a horrible day, filled with many increasing shocks and nightmares that won't end. I am down in New Orleans for a conference and trying desperately to get back to New York. Thankfully, my girlfriend, family, and friends are all alive, but I am grieving for those hurt and killed in this tragedy.
The attacks are over, but there is worse to come. We will almost certainly see economic and social effects for years to come. Many great companies were obliterated almost instantly. I hope we can avoid crackdowns on social liberty or crippling depression, but it's up to us to move forward and rebuild from this disaster.

Glad to hear you're alright Jake
Social and economic worries apart - it sounds to me like President Bush is going to go to war over this - not surprisingly
I live and work in England, today my building - the Chemistry department, Birmingham university has had a security crackdown, noone allowed in or out without an id card. This attack has far reaching consequences.
Once again though, most importantly, I'm glad to hear you are OK. I pray for all your friends and relatives in NYC.
