Warning: Spleen Hanging Out
Montana Redhead (now with letters) Started conversation Mar 30, 2004
I need to vent, and I need to vent now.
So after urging, I went over to one of hootoo's sister sites, collective, and presented my reasons why I thought something should happen. I said that I liked collective a lot, but was afraid to go there and encounter someone we all know from *here* over there...so I didn't want to go there. I said that this person had stalked me and made me feel uncomfortable, and that I was not comfortable using collective whilst he was allowed there.
So suddenly, I get pegged for slander...what? And then the collectivites are jumping all over me for posting there at all, and how dare I? And who do I think I am? And OOOOH! I am SO ANGRY!

Take a deep breath...
Don't worry about the yikesing. It's the phantom yikeser. The post will come back if it hasn't already.
And I don't think the collectivites are coming down on us, really. They are defending their turf and and although they are repeating themselves a lot (just as we are), they aren't nasty about it. It's more about the process, not the users.
But go ahead, blow off . It is frustrating, isn't it? 2 days to go until we find out the verdict.

*nods in agreement*
Do take a step back please, everything that has been said has been said, I'm sure things will all be a lot better in a few days time.. if not in a few days and a week

I've obviously missed out on something here. What's going on people? Turf wars? Could someone briefly summarise for me?

It's probably just as well that I wasn't aware that that particular head-case had found another (equally) alter-ego. I briefly read a little of the latest upset but it is like some horrible deja vu.
It is funny how people who are avid supporters of his right to annoy and attack, invariably end up the butt of his rambling attacks.... and yet, there is always someone willing to take their places.
At least you know that there are more people who support you than not.

Ste, follow the trail on collective....
Mudhooks, I know. I'm just fed up with the silly turf wars.

"found another (equally) alter-ego"... I was lost for words but should have added annoying after equally.

My dear, you have my support, as you well know.
It will all come out in the wash.... later rather than sooner, but out, nontheless.
I suppose it being after 3, I should go to bed. I keep intending to get to bed earlier. Never do, though. Sigh.

I think there's been repetition, not just because Rowan opened two different threads for the discussion, but because several alternate threads were opened up as well.
If there is any niggling at us about "invasions", it only means that those who complained were feeling insecure about their collective Collective identity, so to speak.
What is the Collective for? It's for reviewing things and having cultural discussions, am I right? What, then, is the difference between the Collective and h2g2? Seems that their editor(s) get to have teeth and enforce staying on topic.
I'm not talking about all Collectivites when I say this, but I sincerely believe that some of them are making an effort to eliminate the anarchic SILLY element which they believe pervades h2g2. Which some of them believe pervades h2g2. And they'll never admit it because they fall over themselves to be polite, but I believe they think this elevates their site. They have purpose, content, and "high tone", they think, and we're the trailer park with barking dogs and revving space ships. And mad scientists and virtual restaurants and donut stalls and a waterworks and pubs and a Magic Forest and mountains and blue orangutans and blue powder and rifts. And a Jedi Academy and a coffeehouse or two and a thriving newspaper and an official villains' organisation and a Snow Cannon and a Space Station.
So there is fault on both sides. You could say both sites have their fundamentalists -- we have Thingites and they have Guardians of High Moral Tone. Neither extreme is representative.
What they are doing over there is something like what I had thought to do with the atelier, except that I have always tried to integrate the silliness. It hasn't worked out quite that way, and we talk more about ourselves any more than we do about culture, but that appears to be how everyone wants it so I've given up nagging (name one substantive topic in the current thread). If I were an editor like Rowan, I would probably have persisted in my original intentions...

I don't know Lil. This conversation has taken an odd turn, but usually there's at least one or two substansive arguments being made. I think it's because were all so comfortable with eachother that it seems a place we can talk about everything, from silly to serious to venting. I vented *here* simply because I didn't want to drag the conversation *there* into the whole argument.
But I'm sure I can come up with a serious discussion topic...actually, I did want to bring something up...

Nope. Not private. Just a vent. I'm feeling much less stressed about the whole thing now...
see A2463950 for details why.
