I strongly disagree with some of the advice given here. Going into a relationship with someone you already established a strong friendship with is setting yourself up for success. You already know each other and like each other for who you are. How many relationships fail because of unrealistic expectations, false impressions, and the attempts to fit the other person into the person envisioned by them?
And don't do it "lightly." If it's a person whose friendship you really value, keeping them at arm's length makes them think you don't really value them at all, and a distance starts creeping in that soon exceeds your reach. The transition from great friends to great lovers really isn't that much of a reach anyway.
The most successful marriages among people I've known all started out as friendships... including my own.

Thanks, Blatherskite. I'm still dithering on whether or not it's a good idea, but your opinion helps.

My wife dithered for quite some time, too. She ended up with me, though, so clearly she didn't think it through enough.

Let the chemistry do the work....unless you believe in reincarnation, this is your one and only shot.
