So I'm flipping thru channels, and then there's the most bizarre thing I have ever seen. It's a cartoon, mocking that abysmally bad MTV show TRL...called CRL (Congressional Request Live). The premise is that C-SPAN gets hip, and presents senate hearings as videos...
I was on the floor, and quite shocked by the clarity of the political statements.

That is bizarre, but sounds fun, how long are the videos?

Not very long. It's cut very much like MTV is. They had some girl requesting Tom Daschle's senate speech regarding the funding for the Iraq war (the 87 billion) and then the host was talking about the 4th congressional district in Georgia, and how it's newly elected congresswoman was standing against pork barrel politics...very strange.
What shocked me was that they actually managed to make politics seem interesting. C-SPAN is so incredibly boring...I could see this actually working. perhaps it would get younger people interested in politics!!!

And what do you suppose was the point of the exercise?

VH1, actually. Life on this side of the pond is getting tricky. I went to LAX this morning and felt like a criminal. I really wish this whole War on Terror would find Osama and Saddam and get the damned thing over with, already. Wishful thinking, perhaps, but still.
I think the point of doing "the exercise" is to prove just how lowest common denominator the US is sometimes. If you think about it, how many people who don't have direct dealings with government actually watch C-SPAN? I know I don't, except for the occasional viewing of book talk, when the author is someone I want to know more about (usually a historian).
I think it is also a commentary on just how much youth culture guides US culture.

I agree with what you are saying about 'terror' the houses of parliament look more like dover during WW2 at the moment with concrete blocks all round gawd I get VH1 to remove from favorites just as an *aside* cable in the UK has started showing the 'REALITY' tv channel I'm starting to wonder where it will all end *pay per view* executions????????
