All I wanted was a copy of the digitally remastered 'It's a Wonderful Life' on dvd, to replace my rather worn video copy.
But that apparently is beyond the wit of the assembled video vendors of Chelmsford.
Bah! Humbug! Now what am I going to watch while wrapping my presents?
(And we''ll have none of that bolshevik talk here about 'It's not as good as everybody says' because it is better than anybody has ever been able to say, or any of that post-modernist cynical claptrap about how it is really a dark and miserly picture. People who say that are merely seeing reflections of themselves and have, to quote Dr Suess, hearts that are at least one size too small.)

You don't think it's a bit drug-induced, then, what with all the angels and big white rabbits?

Other than the fact that the big white rabbit is in another film entirely (to whit 'Harvey', that being the name of said rabbit), you are sounding very much in the bolshevik tendency here.
Be off with you.

I found a really cheap (5 euros) dvd of It's a Wonderful Life here in the Corte Inglés sometime last spring, so of course I snapped it up. Previously I just had a video version that I had taped off the television, in English with Spanish subtitles. I also found a dvd of the wonderful animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas on dvd, narrated by Boris Karloff, which I also bought straight away (though it was maybe September at the time).
So I'm all set!
Well, except that I still have not *ever* been able to find the Alistair Sim version of A Christmas Carol.
The only other thing missing is having presents to wrap. Looks like another Christmas with just me and los gatitos. But I've put up the fairy lights and the 'tree' and am just awaiting tons of Christmas cards to put up on my bookshelf.

No, it's a cardboard cut-out, sort of Victorian style 'tree'. Totally cat-proof!
If I ever put up a proper tree I'm sure I would find most of it under the sofa in the morning. Blasted, dern, totally lovable CATS!

Well there is at least one card on its way to Spain that I know of...
Kerr, I will send you the address by e-mail tonight if thats ok. Did I leave my black combats at yours the weekend of the meet, btw? (and don't say thanks until you've opened it, you might hate it. )

Mm, I'm not quite sure what the dog would do to a proper tree- probably despite outdoors had moved indoors and the tree was his new lavatory.

*Shameless plug*. That animated 'Grinch* is the one directed by the late, great Chuck Jones, as detailed in a rather wonderful edited guide entry here A728327

I've made copies of the book (How the Grinch Stole Christmas) which I use in some classes at this time. We first read the book together and then we watch the dvd. It's great. I get to watch The Grinch many many times over the holidays. I mean, and having a reason to do so.
And I cry every time at the end!

well, same with It's a Wonderful Life. Long before it gets to - 'Here's to George Baily, the richest man in town!'- I am already in a flood of happy tears and have used up tons of kleenex.

The store I work in is one of those places that has multiple TVs up high blaring various movies, previews, etc. It's a Wonderful Life is one of the films on rotation, which actually makes work sorta hard to deal with because the movie is a bit upsetting for me

az, the Alistair Sim 'Scrooge' (is that why you can't find it? Looking under C rather than S? ) has just been re-released in this country, digitally re-mastered and all. Just say the word and it will be winging it's way to you, though not in time for Xmas, I suspect...
