And just like Class A narcotics, the come down is a bitch and in absolutely no way is it worth it.
Ever.

I can but sympathise.
Howver, if you're intent on following the love=drug analogy, can I recommend cider, Rugby Union and rock music as a brilliant cold-turkey. No blues - it'll make you miserable.

Sadly what most people call 'love' ends up being what we would wish our love object to be and how we wish they would treat us. And when this does not happen, we are broken hearted and feel like if somehow we had somehow behaved 'more perfectly' in terms of what our partner had wanted then we would have ended up being loved properly.
No way.
My take is that people feel they are 'in love' when often they are just 'in need'. Or perhaps 'in lust'. It's quite a big difference.
We often project our needs and desires onto another person we feel attracted to. And we often try to make that person into the one we truly 'love'.
By the way, I am not being cynical at all. In fact, I am quite a hopeless romantic. But I still see what goes on.
I think that *because* it is so rare to find a partner you can truly love and trust that people sometimes try to make this happen when it isn't actually the case.
Anyhow, this is my response to Blues talking about 'love' as a narcotic. Because that says in itself that this sort of love is not 'really' real. It's just a temporary high. And nuthin wrong with that, as long as one doesn't take it too seriously. And especially not personally.
When one is loved and also loves, there are no silly games and doubts. The wondering about 'am I loved? do I love?' is no longer a problem. But the total wonder of being truly in love remains.

You are so right Azahar...love is a drug, and a narcotic, and is so about, in need, and in lust. But with time it becomes again, in love, which hopefuly 'twas where it started. If it stays the test of time and endures: compromise, understanding, compassion, betrayel, forgiveness and contentment, it is a love worth exploring and a journey well embarked upon. Remember 'tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all'. The best feeling in the whole world the universe and the galaxy ...is love. To never have engulfed the feeling is the saddest way to live. Don't be sad...experience and grow.

hi boots,
*I'm* not sad! It was Blues who said he thought love wasn't worth the come down. So I was just suggesting that it probably wasn't really love.

I don't know that I'm sad. Merely returning to a set of beliefs that I had earlier in my life, slowly but surely.
I don't know *how* I feel about that yet. Maybe it's a trade off. In order to avoid hardening of the arteries due to the onset of age, I have to harden up my mind, and apply the flame to an an area of exposed nerves that aren't doing me any good.
Maybe it's a mistake. Surely makes my last tattoo kind of redundant as it was supposed to be a rimnder not to fall into this way of thinking.
Oh well. Optimism is a wonderful thing but it does set you up for big, big falls.

Pessimism is a wonderful thing too- it means you get lots of nice surprises
What's brought on this sudden black cowboy type attitude, anyway?

Well who's a good little Marvin then? I think someone needs some happy little rays of sunshine. Or a toe 'tecter up the arse. Whichever would work fastest

There's nothing wrong with a healthy sense of realism. I could benefit from an innoculation against the stupid-assed optimism that has pervaded my thoughts for the past year .

It'd be worth it. Honestly, you're like a bloody yo-yo. Are you sure you haven't taken something? Your FM hasn't bunged a tab in your early morning tea?

Taken nothing, your honour (except an evening off from the computer to finish Night Watch), but woke up in a good mood. Sh*t happens.
