I think I want to move to Scotland. they appearto have a proper group of socialists in their parliament, albeit they call themselves the Liberal Democrats. Congratulations to them for sticking it to McConnell and Tony's cronies this week.smiley - ok

And while we're here, lets have a few more politicians like Rosie Kane. Every time I see her on tv I am more and more impressed.smiley - cheers

The only good Tory is a dead Tory, which about sums up the state of their party...smiley - winkeye

Away with them to the dustbin of history.

But surely you have to agree that Rosie Kane is the sort of thing this country badly needs, regardless of her political leanings?

What, a scruffy 'yoof' who aspires to bring Parliament on a par with one of the worst TV shows this decade? Yes, just what we need.

Still, at least she has the balls to belong to a party that actually calls its self Socialist. No, give me proper Tories anyday. At least they don't pretend to me anything more than polititians.

We need someone who can actually get the youth of this country to sit up and take notice, to take control of their own destinies, something which the grey faced likes of Blur, IDS and Chucky-Bum have very sucessfully (and, it seems to me, deliberately) failed to do.

After all, as political dissent by youth over the war has effectively been punished by exclusions from schools (I didn't notice anybody in the House suggesting this was a bad thing) and similar bully boy tactics, it's not surprising they have no faith in the present collection of brain dead New Labourites and Tories...

And one MSP wearing jeans and talking about TV shows will do that? I'd like to think youth is not that shallow.

No, what's needed is evidence that MPs actually *achieve* something- persuade the younger generation that politics is useful, then they'll take interest, regardly of the age and dress-sense of the players.

Mavericks always attract interest. Ask Tony Benn, Cyril Smith, Enoch Powell. One on her own won't change anything, but it's a step in the right direction.

All of whom were vastly preferable to the present generation because they believed in something. Politics is a game of convictions or it means nothing, and as any parent or kids tv producer will tell you, kids can spot insincerity faster than Tony Blair can raise a fake smile.

I agree, it's good that Scotland is moving forward a bit, what with the SSP making gains and so on. But then Scotland has always had a bit more of a socialist tradition. Saw Tommy Sheridon on TV and he came across well, the presenter of course just acted patronisingly, but he made some good points.

I've not seen Rosie Kane, but I am glad to see the Lib Dems making gains. Ever since I have been old enough to make a choice, I've seen Lib Dems providing the only real difference among the big three parties. Labour got where they are today by converging with, and thus bypassing, their opponents. Now the Conservatives are floundering around, unable to return the favour, and certainly not offering a real policy alternative.
I don't count myself as a typical young person. It is rare and refreshing enough to me to find politicians who are willing and able to argue the case for what they believe, in both ideological and practical terms, without boring me to tears. I don't want things 'simplified' for me, but I do want them explained in terms I can understand. If Rosie Kane can do that, she's already halfway to gaining my vote. If she can't - or doesn't - then I don't care how trendy she is or how well she can appeal to the reality-TV-watching masses.

Ah, but is living up here such a good thing? Wild haggis attacks are up again, you know...

I'm quite impressed that the LDs managed to get all they did, but they did have a pretty strong bargaining position. I'm looking forward to the intra-party warfare on this over the next few years smiley - biggrin

The trouble with Tommy Sheridan is that it's very hard to take a socialist seriously when you see him in a sharp suit and perma-tan. smiley - winkeye

I'd certainly agree with that, but still mildly more convincing than a new Labourite in bomber jacket and jeans...smiley - winkeye

Given recent events, a bomber jacket is probably quite appropriate...

Never seen myself as an out and out socialist before. Interseting. Mind you I don't think my future Mother-in-law would agree.

Mind you there are six socialist in there as well.
