the tarot and the future

Another amazing thing about the cards, is, if you put a problem/question to the cards and something else is really bothering you, the cards will answer the 'real' problem, rather than the question posed.
*hahaha*
I find that the cards can be very 'Puckish'
As to the querent claiming that they already knew the answer or dont believe the 'tricks'; I would say what you said about peoples' inability to see things within themselves. And if they ask for a reading, they must have had some desire to know, even if their own perception of the results is clouded. I would read for them anyway and not mind the brushing off of the results. Perhaps those are the ones who need the reading the most.
And I would submit that the power is in the universe, and the channels are both the reader AND the cards...

About the cards being "Puckish".... I once did a foolish thing, and, in a fit of wanting a different answer (about the then-object-of-my -affection), I kept asking questions along a similar line, hoping for the answer I wanted (again, it was a foolish thing, but this is how we learn.) It seemed the cards grew a bit annoyed with me, and started giving nonsensical answers. At which point I did the proper thing, and put them away for the day.
Here's a question for you. Some people are obviously more talented than others in these matters. Would you say it is an ability which we all possess, and some people just choose not to see (or don't know how to see), or would you say that some people are born with a gift, and others aren't? Or perhaps a little bit of both...? Or is it simply not our place to ask 'why?'

Well, we have certainly walked some of the same paths, at least with the tarot. *tee hee*
As far as the 'talent', I agree that it is exactly that; a talent. And like with any other talent, some have it more than others. Some have a great deal of talent and never develop it, and others work very hard and do remarkable things with much less. And yet others, no matter how hard they try, cannot make it work. Some is ability, some is the 'power', some is dilligence; and it works much like those powers that are 'seen'. The only difference is the superstition and lack of understanding that clouds the learning to use invisible talents.
Maybe it's sorta like what it would have been like for Beethoven trying to write a symphony before the orchestra had been invented. He would have still needed to create music, but would have used much more primitive instruments. This isnt a perfect example, but maybe it is sorta the idea...
wadda ya think???

I think that, as usual, you speak with some wisdom.
I would tend to agree that some people simply have more talent than others. My talents lie not so much with reading the future, as with reading people. But with all gifts comes responsibility. And I am slowly learning that being able to "see" people does not give me the right to "force" the truth about themselves on them. While gentle suggestion, if delicately handled, can be of benefit, it is by and large up to each of us to do what we need to to learn about ourselves. Unwanted "help" from the outside is often more of a hinderance.
The nice thing about the Tarot (or other means of divination) is that to the person whose cards are read, any information is likely to be perceived as coming from some nameless force (and indeed, as you pointed out, that does play a role), and therefore any revelations seem less threatening.
But now, it is time for this little pilgrim to get to bed.

So now I can reveal that I got billypilgrim a set of tarot cards for Christmas (with the Q of S intact). Merry Saturnia, people, and the days can only get longer for 180 days or so.
