Why bother?

Why bother to double check two-asterisk researchers on the <./>NewUsers</.> page, when no one else seems to bother?
(Why do I even check? Well - because in many cases the first posting on a newcomer's page wasn't made by an ACE!)
Why bother to point out to other ACEs that they've had responses to their ACE messages, when he/she (just one, so far) doesn't even bother to reply to my posting, or to the newcomer's response?
Why bother to start a casual easy-going conversation with a newcomer, when the conversation will soon be invaded by other ACEs doing their best to smother the newcomer with an overload of info, links, tips, advice? Way too often that seems to intimidate the newcomer....
Why bother?

Thank you!
But what if there are no journals?
So many ACE greetings are stuffed full with so much info and so many links that they appear quite overwhelming to me - and if that's how I feel, how will then a newcomer feel?
I'm trying out a new style of greeting myself - just a simple hi, maybe a comment on the user page, and nothing more - if the newcomer responds, *then* I give some links, but just a few at the time....
....the trouble is when another ACE sees my first intentionally simple hi, and decides to join in with one of those long lists of things before I've even managed to get a new conversation going
Checking the 2 asterisk newcomers, I've seen many who have not been visited by an ACE, but by a fellow researcher who has just dropped by - very often newcomer as well - leaving a very simple and short message - and I see that those postings seem to trigger a reply more often than the voluminous ACE greetings

*sips tea*
Ah - but you see - those attempts at short "hi"s I've made while 'out of uniform' - as my other self, that is....
Enough ranting - the problem isn't really that big - it was triggered by a bit of a falling out with another ACE - and I'm afraid I wasn't being very considerate in my replies *sigh*
I've been thinking of saying I'm sorry, but on the other hand I still think I had a point, but I'm obviously unable to make the ACE understand my point of view - shall have to calm down and think about it more rationally, obviously
Why bother?

Traveller in Time basically in agreement with the idea
"As in: 'flooding the newbees with links and information'
The ACEing was just to help the newbee as the < <./>Welcome</.> > and already flood them with information.
A more relaxed and mainly really responding reply is what they need. Well, I have been indiscussion with several ACEs about this and other concepts, such as GIVING A REPLY WITHIN HALF A YEAR. for shouting, I got a reply eventually but it still shows bad behaviour.
What newbees require is some interaction with what they have been saying and doing onsite before the ACE finally find them. I think this is of more importance then just dumping an outdated message.
Most of the above has been dealt with, though as far as I see some 'ACE's still do not get it, they just drop their message and never read anything on the page before that! "
