kea ~ Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small, unregarded but very well read blue and white website

Sorry, I only just caught up with this thread (so many active threads at the moment, it's like the good ole days, although I'm not exactly sure what an ole is).

smiley - hug

I appreciate you voicing how it is for you Effers, it's important to know how all this is for people. I have my own process, not so intense, but still stuff comes up for me a bit about what's going to happen. Then I remind myself that I know and trust the c3 people, these are people I've known for a long time and they're all very cool and brilliant. Not that that means that I don't still have my worries. So then I run round and make silly threads smiley - winkeye

Life today in NZ is very strange. The man that heads the main employers organisation here has been on national television and radio saying that women deserve to be paid less then men because they have periods (monthly sickness was the actual term he used) smiley - laughsmiley - headhurts

Why can't Taff post from home?

He can..but tends to much less because he's on nights at his prison all week..and the catching up with real life the following week.

It's him being on all night when he's in the prison..because of all my sleep problems.

Plus I'm very upset for him personally..cos I know how important h2g2 is to him at work.

Her Majesty's Prison's only allow the beeb.

I bet he posts more from home after we move. But that doesn't solve the sleepless night thing. There's always me and anhaga, and where's ~jwf~?

I do hope you get some sleep too though.

Hi, can I join you?

Effers, I was moved by your comment

>> whole concept of buying and selling a community of people is wrong IMO.

You are so right about that. smiley - hug It's been a frightening journey for us too, as we worked out how to find the best possible home for us all. Not just the easy, cute and fluffy ones, but the sparky, spiky, difficult ones.

Z and I went to the Island of Eigg for a break a month ago, and we found out that the Islanders had bought the island from a crazy, lazy German Conceptual Artist about 10 years ago. If you feel like exploring the story - and it's a happy one - here is a good place to start: http://www.isleofeigg.net/eigg_heritage_trust.html

I don't think of us as having been bought and sold though; I think of us as being gifted a nice new home.

I know Robbie's an unknown quantity for a lot of people, and of course everyone has to see what he has to say about things. What I can tell you is that several of us started out very very cautious, and that several of the c3 people have said to me how much their respect and trust has grown over the months we've worked on this together. I'm not saying this because I think you should feel the same way, I'm saying this so you've got some information to help you make sense of it all.

Of course you're very welcome.

smiley - laugh I think the problem I have with Robbie is his name..Robbie Stamp...it sounds the most unlikely name any one might have...but that's so hootoo.

Yeah the bought and sold thing is strange.

I'm getting used to the concept.

But I'll never totally get used to it..which is kind of good I think.

I'm feeling extremely happy overall. It's like this dynamic thing that's happening to us.

I'm getting quite confused by jargon..and stuff. But I'm feeling good that people who know how to use it, know what they are talking about...and they are good people.

Finally after all these years smiley - dontpanic has become real

Effers, the Interim Committee are putting together a FAQ list. If there's anything you'd like clarified drop it in this thread: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/F21525517?thread=8244456

kea I'm completely confused by everything at present.

I just can't deal with jargon.

But I know that it'll all settle down eventually.

This kind of stuff is not what I'm good at..well in the way it's done.

But I know good people are doing it so I don't need to worry excessively now.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

Most of the very* technical stuff goes straight over my head too... But I've known people like Pasty for years, and he's an absolute star on the geeky coding and all that stuff (which goes utterly beyond my head), but when he and others like him from here say thigns like 'I'll design the new log in', or 'I'll code somethign up by the weekend', they actually* do it... Its amazing just how many really knoledgable and expert people we've got on here, and how many, like pasty, the Z's etc., have just given up hundreds and hundreds of hours already to saving this site, and our community....

I volenteered myself hte other day, to go through the two main announcement threads, (the one from our editors on the BBC, and the other one which was by Robby Stamp), in order to collate and find any questions people had asked in them; To also go into the frequently asked questions that err someone is putting togehter and coming up to answers too, and without realising it, I started crying part way through reading the threads... just seeing all those old time researchers pop out of the wood, old Italics returning, new/current members giving support, people from the origional team who knew Douglas Adams at digital village, posting, and even the message from Douglas's brother posted into one of the threads smiley - crysmiley - blush blimey.... and I used to be one of those who'd try and calm things down when people got too over the top in some threads, with the phrase 'remember, its only a web-site'... (I think possibly Jimster or someone first used that phrase)...
But... its clearly not* just* a web-site...
This will be the sites third move, first digital village, then here on the BBC and now to pastures new again, but in all that, its not changed, not moved really, as its the community and everyone on here, who are* the site... we are the community, adn its the community that makes this place what it is, and makes us care... smiley - cuddle damn... I must stop writing stuff like that I'll set myself off again smiley - crysmiley - blush

Oh, and if you do have any questions you can just put them in here if you like, and I can email them off with the others I've already sent through for compiling the FAQ and answers to people questions... smiley - zensmiley - cuddle

I was so incredibly upset earlier I was convinced I was banned because I was a bit controversial earlier in another thread.

I think it's about 3 years now since my ban, and it always still worries me and hangs over me.

But my last discussion with the Eds was so nice about the 'gay' issue.

So hopefully this will work. I had emailed anhaga because I was so upset.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

I think from what Iread a litttle bit ago in the message from the Italics, there was some problem with some techno thing... the servers or something.... and this meant there was a moderation backlog, and so they just put the entire site as 'read only', whilst they cleared the backlog, so basically it was like everyone was on pre-mod, and couldnt post at all... I think* well I know others, and myself couldnt post until just now... smiley - magic
