I hate the BBC
Effers;England. Started conversation May 1, 2011
Yesterday I added a tag to my name, 'I hate the BBC'. Earlier today it was failed and and email was sent and my name was converted back to a number.
I've now added, 'I love the BBC'. It has yet to be failed.
The British Broadcasting Corporation is something that has gone to the heart of our national life for quite a few decades, and it actually means that every UK citizen who owns a tv or accesses the BBC's output on a computer, has to pay for it...by LAW.
The BBC appear to think it fine to stop me saying, 'I hate the BBC' in my name...but allow me to say I love her.
Is this the kind of limitation of free speech we can expect in the UK in the future?
I find it extremely worrying because the beeb goes to the heart of our national life.
And sweet mary mother of god...what is wrong with my giving an opinion about the BBC on my h2g2 name?
I just don't get it.
I hate the BBC

That is really bad Am trying to think what you could do. I'd suggest appealing the decision but I've yet to hear back from the formal appeal process I set in motion a couple of months ago. Maybe talk to the Guardian

*Hate* is such a negative, ugly word.
I'm disappointed, unpleasantly surprised and feeling vaguely orphaned.
Sad, really.

Yes it's Old English and bespeaks passion.
I feel more than sad. Broken hearted about what a little thing the BBC has become.
I was being honest. The BBC find honesty offensive these days.
But then more and more here in the UK offensiveness must be disappeared.

That's why it failed, because it showed passion. Aren't the English supposed to keep phlegmatic, stiff upper lip and all that?
But seriously, for you.

No, that's the British. Some of us are an excruciatingly difficult mixture of both.

Having more posting problems here. Stuff getting disappeared.
It's so difficult trying to second guess what the BBC deems offensive and likely to provoke..when I use the guide of how people around me in real life react.

I don't think it helps my sanity to try to find patterns like that.
An excellent psychiatrist once said to me, when a situation was sending me seriously crazy, 'Don't try to find reasons'.
I blame their 'voices'

try re posting it line by line,
you can then find the offending line
re post that line word by word
it'll drive the s crazy because then they cannot justify
ing a single word post as offensive

No. Tiggy once did that and was put on pre-mod for months.
People can make up their own minds about their insane censorship.

I wonder what the last night of (BBC) proms will be like this year?
I've always loved it since a kid. The once a year its okay to get really, really patriotic.
Land of Hope and Glory
MOTHER OF THE FREE
Getting all proud about the idea we started this idea of free speech and trusting people with that...and its as much about Mum putting the kettle on and sitting round the table like we do on h2g2. That always chokes me..not like other country's great big vistas..
That's the kind of thing I could imagine fighting for...but now it just means fighting pre-mod
Actually, seriously, very poignant
