h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Earlier tonight my puter choked (which it's been doing occasionally... I figured I'd about reached a state of overload so I cleaned some garbage outlast week) and when I shut it down and tried to restart it it gave me the message of doom. Something along the lines of ....ummmm.... disk failure? drive failure? I don't remember. I tried it 3 times, same story. So I made myself a verrrrrry tall after calling my dad and confirming that, yes, this was not a good thing. And I sat in the bath and mourned all the stuff that I'd probably lost forever. And I sipped. And I guzzled.

Anyway, after I'd shriveled my toes to lil white rasins, I came back out and started the puter again though I really had no hope. And it started! No evil, cryptic messages! YAY!!!!! Had to twiddle with the modem for a while before my internet connection worked, but it did. So I dashed into my email stuff and wrote down all the really necessary addys that I was worried about losing contact with forever, and I popped some of my stuff here and there just in case it's all a dead zone tomorrow. Hopefully it was just a sign: START DOING BACKUPS, BRITTA! But more than likely things are going awry, and til I sort 'em out I'll be banished to the library soon. AAAAaaaaaaaarrrrrrggggggh!

I'm worried.

It's still working this morning, so if all's well tonight I'll probably be spending hours saving stuff that I don't want to have to rebuild. *sigh* What a pain. I need servants.

Start making backups, GB. That was not a good feeling at all when I got the hard drive failure messages. I've got the this morning to prove it, too.
