There is an old saying that you can't please all the folk all the time. I think its appropriate for todays blast.
I've noticed a minority of comments from folk not taking part in najopomo who seem to take umbrage at the number of jounals and subsequent postings and think its nothing more than spamming or flooding. Funny that. I wonder if that same minority are on FB or Twitter with all the dross and fodder for the braindead that gets posted there?smiley - spacesmiley - shrug
At least this November challenge increases activity across hootoo and afterall, isn't the other complaint, again from a minority, that there's not much activity around hootoo?smiley - spacesmiley - huh
Its also not gone unnoticed that the same few complaining don't appear to do much around hootoo at any time of the year so does make one wonder just exactly what it is folk expect.
So for the benefit of those not interested, (which probably means not reading this anywaysmiley - spacesmiley - winkeye )how about doing something for the Edited Guide or commenting in PR or even do sumat for The Post?

In other news I had to fast from 9pm last night through to 9.30am today in order to have a re-run of blood tests.smiley - spacesmiley - vampiresmiley - spaceIt appears the cardiologist wasn't happy with the results when I saw her last month and wanted them doing again. Its possible that the new painkilling med I'm on may have affected the results so they're doing a re-run to make sure.smiley - spacesmiley - nursesmiley - spacesmiley - doctorsmiley - spacesmiley - love
Oh, and yes, I did manage to break the new win 10 system yesterday. I loaded it up with additional software and games. The irony I suppose was it happened to be a Microsoft game, Halo, that seem to be the final straw.smiley - spacesmiley - biggrinsmiley - spaceTis all working again now though.smiley - spacesmiley - ok

Have a good day folks, ttfn. smiley - spacesmiley - towel

paulh, vaccinated against the Omigod Variant

I grant that there are a lot of extra posts due to the daily journals, but most of the replies to these journals are short ones, usually by people who are also doing daily journals and don't have time to do more than check in.

I signed up all the participants on my friends list, meaning that there will be at least 400 extra threads to keep track of this month: 30 days X 20 or so participants who check in at the threads of their fellow jou8rnal-writers.

I've gotten it down to a science: I check in with every new thread where I haven't posted yet, and delete every thread that has gone 24 hours or more without a new reply.

One of the protesters is Malabarista. She has stated very clearly that she objects to the principle of writing just for the sake of it because someone, somewhere, on the web, once had an idea that we could all write a little bit of journal or blog each day for a month.

Mala has contributed huge amounts of artwork to the site (loads of smileys) in the past. She's not been able to muck in as much lately, but we respect and understand her objections. Especially because, as the month goes on, some of us will be writing things on a "What I had for breakfast" level.

Personally, I agree with you that it's nice to have stuff happening for once, and, as KB said somewhere, this amount of conversations appearing in one's convo list used to be the norm.

Horses for courses.

In the meantime, I've started so I'll finish...

I am one of the guilty ones who posts a new journal every day.

Next year, if the rules decree, I am quite happy to start an entry and post to that every day. People can then subscribe to the entry or not, and any journals I write outside of the NaJoPoPo thing can be added at irregular intervals to my PS.

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky.

I already have most of the participants on my friends list anyway but the others I check from Create page itself.

It's once a year, for thirty days. I actually quite like the increased traffic and the sense of inclusion and very rarely write journal entries at any other time of the year. If any of my friends want to defriend me for the month, that's fine I completely understand. If you need me, you can leave me a message.

I'm a little behind actually, but I'll catch up before Friday's over.

Deb

I tend to read, leave my calling card then unsubscribe so that every time I log on I'm not confronted with new posts in loads of conversations which consist of other people leaving their calling card.

If I'm moved to comment, I don't then unsub in case of follow-up comments.

The trouble with those journals posted in one long thread is that you have to go and look at all the calling cards in case you miss the next entry. I still do it, but it can get a bit tedious as the month progresses and I fall behind on reading. Last year (or maybe the year before) I gave up writing my own journals so I could keep up with reading other peoples - this was more important to me than doing my own.

I do love the sense of inclusion I get from NaJoPoMo. I'm not a particularly creative person and haven't yet made a contribution to the guide, but taking part in NaJoPoMo gives me hope that if I keep exercising the muscle eventually I'll manage to write my very own entry.

pebblederook-The old guy wearing surfer beads- what does he think he looks like?

I believe that even writing about what you have for breakfast can be a great start. You might start writing about breakfast in general, innovative breakfasts, even breakfasts through the ages, which ends up as a guide entry. At worst, just thinking about breakfasts might inspire you to have a proper one at the weekend, and that's always a good thing. smiley - ok
