Well, last night saw myself, Dr E Vibenstein(U40285), Underground Caroline(U119285) and SPINY(U35761) meeting up with Lyns(U158938) from the BBC with regards to her call for researchers. (see following article) http://www.h2g2.com/A480340
We all arrived at about 7pm at the Cyberia internet Cafe on Hannover St., where we chatted until they closed, consuming coffee, beer and yummy nacho's. SPINY popped in and out during the evening, as he was working, unfortunately for him. When Cyberia closed, we ajourned to the hospitality of the Standing Order. (can you see a pattern emerging here? )
The point of the meet up was to try and glean a better insight into exactly what Lyns & BBC had in mind for this project. Basically it is a pilot for what is hoped to be a bigger project, should this work and go down well with those in the know. DNA has had quite a lot of input, trying to bring his vision closer to the 'hand-held' device he originally thought the Guide as being.
The basic idea, as I understand it, and people are quite free to correct me on this, is that you arrive in (for the sake of the pilot) George Square, Glasgow, you check your 'guide' to find out all about the place you are in. Things to do, places to go, things and places to eat/drink, transport, the local lingo, local customs and so forth.
This will initially be web-based, for the project, and using such products as QuicktimeVR you can take virtual tours and follow the links to the information. Lyns had also mentioned possibly doing video and audio interviews and using the vast expanse of the BBC's archives to give more life to the project. A very interesting idea, the only drawback is that it needs to be completed by the end of January, so that the bods have time to get the physical website built.
So basically it is a BBC project in conjunction with DNA and h2g2.
Now to sit down and write out thoughts on articles, etc.
I have decided to start an article that will incorporate as much info as I can gather while this progresses, sort of like a log of how this gets on. This can be found here: http://www.h2g2/A492266

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
