I'm not sure what you were trying to link but I don't think you wanted to link to your gmail. Don't worry, anyone opening that link with a gmail account will just find their own inbox.

As to waking early, I was lathering up in the shower at 5:30 when I realized that because of the holiday on Friday, a day I already have off, I didn't have to go to work this morning. smiley - doh

This works out well as I have to pick up my car from the shop today.

BG, I hope you are right. I have asked the moderators if they can delete that post.. It was a neat page about New Years. A countdown for the 26 hours from Baker Island to Kiritimati, Kirbatii. And other stuff. So Happy New year to you and Thankx a Bunch for lowering my worry level. ... smiley - bubbly . .. ...

I slept until almost 6.30am smiley - bigeyes And that's after going to bed at around 10.30pm and reading for half an hour, then listening to the radio for another 15 minutes or so smiley - wow

Back to the 5.30 alarm tomorrow, Thursday being my Monday smiley - sadface

Ugh... I woke up at around 3:30. I don't remember going back to sleep, rather I just lay there trying to until I gave up 10 minutes before my 5 am alarm.

Not much sleep last night. Not for the usual reason (ie, no reason at all), but because of the damn cedar pollen smiley - sadface

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

I fell asleep on the sofa Sunday evening, sometime between 9.00 and 10.00 I reckon. Woke up at 1.50am, thought about going to bed, and in the time it took me to do that and do all things you do before going to bed (putting out the lights, taking stuff to the kitchen, brushing teeth etc), I suddenly found that I was wide awake again and decided to watch some telly.

It's now 3.54am and I still don't feel like going to bed. I've half a mind to just stay up all night and have a kip on the sofa tomorrow (today) afternoon.

Or perhaps if I lay down on the sofa again with some Radio 4 on (I was listening to an old I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue when I drifted off - how wonderful to hear Willy Rushton again smiley - bigeyes) I might sleep for another three hours. Getting up at 6am would suit me just fine.

5.30. Still up. I was awake and starting to get up this time yesterday.

I stayed up nearly two hours later than I would prefer last night because of a bad streak of luck playing mah-jong on my laptop. smiley - doh

So, let's see how today goes on less than five hours of sleep.

Less than five hours is what I often get smiley - sadface

I decided I felt tired enough to go to bed not long after that last post, but I didn't want to sleep too long, so rather than set the alarm I turned the radio on and put a pillow over my head so that I could still hear it, as if it was in the background. Slept for a couple of hours, woke up a few times, had some very smiley - weird dreams (little of which I can remember now, just the smiley - weird bits), and I have a pinger of a headache smiley - headhurts

Aspirins have been taken.

I also awoke right at 4:00, but I was able to nod back off this time until the alarm went off. I managed to make it to work about 10 minutes earlier than I usually do as well. This is good because the traffic that builds up through Kemah increases greatly in the thirty minute window I tend to head home sometimes doubling my 15-20 minute commute.

Currently they are planning on beginning a "fly-over" through Seabrook and Kemah, an elevated highway bypassing the intersections and traffic lights next year. http://seabrooktx.gov/index.aspx?NID=369
While this will be very welcome when completed, the two plus years of construction will not be. Also, there is a good possibility of a similarly ambitious construction project on the other end of the lake meaning I will not have a viable alternate route to work and I fully expect even without that project, my commute will probably increase to as much as an hour on the way home. smiley - headhurts

However, a thought occurs to me. If it does get that bad it may make bicycle commuting viable as it takes me an hour to ride to work. But this is very unlikely as I really doubt there will be a safe bicycle route through this construction.

Yeah, it's a double-edged sword, that one. A road improvement scheme will make things better (usually), but you have to put up with the construction delays in the meantime.

I've used my extra couple of hours (I'd like to be able to get up at 6am on my days off) productively - I went to visit Howard E Butt's grocery store. My local one opens at 6am. I went there for a handful of things I need for the week, and hoping they have those boxes of loose tea that Fiesta didn't have last week, cos that would save me another trip to somewhere else later today - a place that doesn't open until 9.30.

They used to. They don't any more smiley - flustered It's becoming impossible to buy loose tea now.

You may have to find a mail/internet source.

For the first time, I'm considering that $99/yr Amazon upgrade. I'm thinking of the many various orders I bought from them and even though I really never need quick delivery, I could make the extra cost worth it if I drop Netflix's streaming service. I rarely use it and often when I want to, I find they've dropped whatever show I was wanting to watch, or only have the first few seasons (IT Crowd). I do prefer to give my business to local merchants, but there just aren't many local merchants in my area that sell the things I want (I won't go to Walmart. I tolerate, barely, Target. And we don't have a CostCo.)

I know I can get it, and cheaply, from that Indian grocery. You know, the one that takes an hour to get to on the bus, a trip that takes either one or two transfers depending on which way I go to it, and could be done in around ten minutes in a car, and there's only one journey during the entire week that doesn't involve up to 30 minute waits for a bus, but that's on a Sunday afternoon, when I'm busy making smiley - cidersmiley - rolleyes

The other place, the one I'll have to visit today, is a 5-10 minute walk from Fort Gosho and is a little independent deli. I used to call in there for the tea on the way home from the Drafthouse but I got fed up with the surly staff. Then Mrs Gosho took me to the Indian place smiley - ok Then Mrs Gosho took me again smiley - ok Then Mrs Gosho moved to Dallas smiley - doh And now that I'm working ten-hour days four days a week, this other place is shut by the time I go past it on the bus home.

Thought I was on a result with Fiesta smiley - cross

I know you've ruled out bicycles, but maybe you could use something like this electric scooter.

Dorky as hell, but very utilitarian.
