Driving Peeve
Pete Started conversation Jul 20, 2000
A lot of people have a lot of pet-peeves about other drivers. Most people complain about the type of driver that I am: drive too fast, weave in and out, talk on the cell phone, read a map while driving. I have even used my lap top while driving to find directions that I had saved there. So, if you see me coming, and these things upset you, better get ready to fume! Of course, I've never had an accident, but don't let any simple facts interfere with your prejudices.
So... I have a peeve too. It's a serious peeve; it really bothers me a lot. It's people who let other people make left turns in front of them. I'm the second, third, or any-number-other-than-the-first car at an intersection, waiting for the light to change. There's a car or cars going the opposite direction on the other side of the intersection, and he's got his left-turn signal on. When the light changes, the guy in front of me waves the driver on the other side of the intesection to go! Fine! Very polite! But what about me and all the other people BEHIND you! What are we, chopped liver? Don't we deserve some courtesy and consideration? I've decided that the real problem is that the guy in front of me is just unaware of traffic behind him... which, if you think about it, is a pretty serious shortcoming. So, the next time you're tempted to let someone turn left in front of you, look in your rear-view mirror. If I'm behind you, know that I'll be annoyed no end. Then, if you decide to let him go anyway, well, at least you will know what you're doing. I can understand being a jerk... but I'm embarrassed by lack of thought.
So, that's how I begin my journal.
