On the whole, it seems people were far more eloquent in the past. A look at most books from that time(100 years ago and before)will be evidence enough for that. The rules of grammar were more binding then, stressing formality and such, but people in the past used words colloquially that might confuse a person if used in everyday conversation now, depending on the eruditeness of the person you speak with today.
Now, with the knowledge that common eloquence has diminished in the overall population, figure into the equation that the population of the world has exploded in recent times.
Eloquence diminishes, population rises. I had a thought - perhaps intelligence is a constant in the world, in that there is only a set amount of it that can be spread out across the population of the world. When there is less people, more people are smarter. More people, less people are smarter. It's completely logical, except for the fact that it's idiotic and has no basis in reality. Still, it's amusing for a few seconds.

I think you have a good theory there... don't just give it up .
I like to read journals - but you don't have to bother to read mine, they are not as inspired as yours
Be well,
PE

Well, it is a good theory in that it's interesting and amusing, but, it's still irrational...unless our knowledge of history and intelligence in the world is completely wrong. I'm not sure, but thank you for your support...I've never been called inspired before,
so thank you This place is rather inspiring, actually, h2g2 is. And of course I'll read your journals, silly
Cheers

I agree h2g2 is really addicting - was caught up in the Poco Island thing for some time... but, having found a theme for my entry guide, start concentrating on that.
Nice talking to you,
CU around,
