I went down to the Lake District with my friend (U142065) yesterday, and had a somewhat strange time. We first stopped in a village called Wreay (prounounced Ree-ah), with a church that seemed to be filled with carved stone pineapples (they were later discovered to be pine-cones).
We then bought a stone dragon, actually my friend's dad did. We heaved it into the boot, and hoped that the car (pretty ancient) would be able to struggle back up to Scotland in it.
We also saw the Aira Falls - a waterfall that's pretty high, but not record-breakingly so. There's a (true) story that a girl threw herself off the rocks at the top of the waterfall because she heard her true love had been killed in a war. This wasn't true, and when he came back he died of a broken heart because she'd killed herself. It is rumoured that his ghost still haunts the waterfall...

Hi Aurora,
How big was the stone dragon???
And oh, what a lovely, tragic story of true love...
Thanks for the entry, I enjoyed reading it

If you want to know more about the story, try e-mailing [email protected] He doesn't check his e-mail that often, but it's worth a try!
The stone dragon wasn't that big. The base was square, about 2ft on each side. The dragon is curled up in the middle, looking evil...

I just talked to Roger, and he says it's not Aira Falls, it's Aira Force (the Cumbrian name for a waterfall), so apologies for getting that wrong!

I don't know where you'd end up if you tried to go to Aira Falls... Oh, and if you do go, take a mask and an oxygen tank. The pool at the bottom's really deep, and is filled with coins people have thrown in!
