Anybody Have a Hug?
Fragilis - h2g2 Cured My Tabular Obsession Started conversation Apr 18, 2001
I seem to be running a bit short on them...
I broke up with my longtime smoochie Joe over the past week. We've been together for over five years, and honestly the last three have been a terrible struggle. We're both perfectly stubborn and didn't want to give up on the relationship, I suppose. But towards the end, the stress and bitterness was expressing itself rather forcefully in the state of my health.
I finally threw in the towel a few days ago, and told Joe it was quits. And so I've spent two nights in an 'extended stay' hotel. I really don't recommend these, by the way. I fear I may be permanently ruined on the enjoyment of posh hotels. This place has everything, I kid you not, but in such an antiseptic and efficient manner that it's thorougly disheartening.
Anyway, my health is slowly returning I have a week's worth of clothes, my schoolbooks, a few sodas and frozen entries, and not much else. I can't even see my cat without being involved in uncomfortable conversations that have no chance of going anywhere.
Since Joe and I work literally a few feet apart from each other in the same company, I'm doing my best to keep the issue mum until I have my own apartment and a car of my own. My gossippy co-workers would skin us both alive while our backs were turned, and I really need to keep my job.
Meanwhile, our mutual friends are quite tired of hearing us fight, and I don't want anyone to feel they have to take sides. And my only surviving relative (my mother) is far, far away and hasn't wanted to discuss my personal life in any depth since I came out as bisexual something like 8 years ago.
Good grief. Does anybody have any hugs?

So sorry to hear all this Frags! I know exactly what you mean about the upheaval of moving and leaving pets behind.
I didn't go to a hotel when I finally made the break, just into a rather bleak rented house, but the displacement can be just as real either way.
I'm sure that you will come through this though... as I did, although I don't necessary recommend moving to another country to solve your loneliness! LOL
I'll send Greebo along when I can catch her... she'll give you plenty of kittycat hugs... although she'll probably eat all your 's

Thanks, Shazz!
It's nice to know I'm not alone in feeling this way. It's funny that people don't talk about this stuff in public much, but it must happen rather a lot. After hearing your sob story (over ICQ), I'm incredibly thankful that I will get (most of) my stuff back eventually. I'm sure we'll have a hard time with the jointly owned things, though!
I can't even change jobs, as I need my employer to pay for my education. So moving out of the country is certainly out of the question.
Anyway, thankd for dropping by. I'm three hugs richer than before you came.

Excuse me, you don't know me but sorry you're having such a rotten time. I have horrible memories of similar misery but I'm all right now. It gets better to the extent that you wonder why you were so upset. Takes a while though. Ah well, consider having a nice alcoholic beverage and another

Here´s another from Germany. Sorry for you. I can very well understand what stress fighting can meen, as I have my dose of that, too. My friend and I don´t just work in the same building, we have to do our job together, looking after seven kids after school. I sometimes felt very frustrated having to go back to work next day after a fight with the knowledge none of the children was to know we were on bad terms.
But being on the male side I guess I have my drawbacks on realy understanding how awful men can be.
I wonder, does Joe read your h2g2-material? That is one of the drawbacks you have being such an unanonymous person. I think I would feel very tight on my informationpolicy after a breakup...
So...s and all.

Shorn Canary, thanks for the . You're definitely making a good first impression. I'm afraid I don't drink alcohol, though, so I will have to have a instead.
Englander, thanks for the farflung ! I agree it must be very hard hiding things from seven curious kids.
I'm not really into male-bashing, and Joe isn't a horrible guy in general. It's just our relationship that has been horrible.
And yes, he has occasionally popped by to spy on me. And I don't really care if he's spying on me now. It's really not my biggest concern today. I'm more worried about getting an apartment, doing my homework, buying a car! And getting a little solace, which I think he understands. Anyway, he's not really latched onto the h2g2 thing as I have.

Hey, Fragilis. I just popped in with these s. I hope you don't mind them coming from a virtual stranger, but it sounds like things are pretty awful right now for you, and I hope they start to pick up soon.
Actually, ages back you and I had a conversation about your Do It Yourself Fairy Tale Kit. I DID mean to write one, but so many of my projects seem to be gathering dust right now.
Anyway, take care, and have these as well.

I'm feeling with you, Fragilis.
I'm tempted to tell you some sound-sounding things like 'Just compare what you win and what you give up' or something like that, but I doubt that would be of too much value for you right now. Just try to find your way back to normality (impropability 1:2^1024 and falling ). The Italians have a very fine saying for that kind of circumstances:
"L'amore fa passare il tempo, e il tempo fa passare l'amore", which means "Love makes time pass, time makes love pass"
Hope this helps a bit

Sad, Mad, or Bad, thanks for the tons and tons of hugs! I see you around a lot and I do remember the Fairy Tale Kit discussion, so you don't feel like a complete stranger to me. I have projects gathering rather too much dust myself, so don't feel bad about it.
Jeremy, thanks for your also. Also, thanks for the Italian phrase. I'd never heard that one before. And it does come in useful, doesn't it? But honestly, the heartbreak isn't as bad as you would think. Mostly, it was hard to leave because of the investment I'd put into the relationship. It seemed a terrible waste to just walk away.
29 hugs so far.

Thanks harrietaar, Granny Weatherwax, and Jimi X. At this rate, I'll be all hugged out in a couple of days.
I'm sure things will work out in the end. I'm looking at apartments this afternoon, and I'm sure I'll start feeling better once I have one. But thanks to everyone for making me feel so much better in the meantime.

I've chosen a place (and a very one it is). It's a matter now of them processing all my paperwork, including credit and background checks. This may be completed today, or it might be tomorrow. But in any case, I am starting to feel better about the whole situation.
After this, I also need to buy a car...
