yesterday i experienced the most scary and exciting thing i think i've experienced in my life!
basically the lead role in our musical has left the school for reasons i won't go into now, and with a week to go the director asked me to fill the part.
in case you're interested the musical is West Side Story. my previous part was Action but i've now been moved up to Tony and the first dress reheardal is in precisely a week from today!
despite how scared i was initially i'm up for it, although i can't learn any of the songs right now because i've lost my voice and/or have a throat infection so if it doesn't clear up by wednesday i don't know what i'm going to do because there's no one else who can fill the role other than me!
aaaargh! and it's nearly rehearsal time!!!

Tony, what an inspiring name. Its like the name of somekind of underrated genius or a hero of tomorrow, fills me with hope does that name
I'm sure you'll be fine Galigan, if you weren't up to the job they wouldn't ask ya. Just be glad you weren't asked to play a girls' role, though then of course you could demand changing with the girls which could be fun.
Break a leg we thespians say.

Congrats!
Good work chief. You've put a lot of effort in, now you've got that extra stroke of luck. All thats left is to get your voice back and you'll kill it! Just remember when you break that leg to do it metaphoriacally, not literally!

thanks guys. voice is still on holiday but i'm doping myself up on cough medicine and stuff like that s hopefully it's on the way back!
when/if the original tony comes back most people are gunna want to kill him, but i think i'd probably end up thanking him becuase if he hadn't done what he did i wouldn't be up here now.
my mum's coming over to watch it and i haven't told her that my part's changed yet. i'm thinking of surprising her...

First performance was last night and it went really well!
it had been planned as the dress rehearsal but the other nights were fully booked so they ticketed it as well.
other that a few mishaps here and there, like someone forgetting their knife for the knife fight scene *rolls eyes* and one of the teachers in it missing out part of a scene because he messed up his lines, oh, and my microphone getting caught in the girls hair when we were hugging, it went really well! the first song i did that i'd messed up on previous occasion went superbly and i came of the stage grinning like a maniac!
hopefully tonight will go well too because my mum's coming to watch and i haven't told her that i've changed parts yet.
*fingers crossed*

last night of the play was last night! it was an absolute storm!!! went so well and people were crying when i died and eveything! it was so much fun, although i'm quite glad it's over because i'm absolutely exhausted and have (probably) have loads of work to catch up on! i'm so out of touch with reality!
although the after-party was met with mixed views by all because there wasn't any booze. after-parties are probably the ONLY time when it is actually a good idea to get drunk in order to have more fun! (and if not they should be!) it wasn't too bad though because there was food and coke and they gave out some awards. i got the I Can't Believe He Did It award for outstanding achievement, along with a golden gun (to 'get my own back' on the guy who kills me) and a superman DVD (long story). one of the funniest things though was the 'men in uniform' calendar that was given to the teacher who played Krupke. there's a moment i'll not forget for a while!

Why didn't I read this before starting my own theatrical thread?
