stimmt, du hast recht, einige Originalnamen sind auch nicht wirklich umwerfend beeindruckend, 'Happy Vertical People Transporters' hört sich auch nicht so grandios an, aber die beschreibungen dann sind genial.

Wie dem auch sei, was ich bemerkt habe und das SEHR wichtig scheint:
Meine D Ausgabe von dem Rest. @ D End of D universe endet nachdem Arthur den h2g2 wegwirft und NOCH DEM ABSATZ wo eklärt wird daß er sein eigener ururur(etc)großvater ist - der ganze Absatz ist in meiner E version nicht!
vielleicht ausgelassen weil er die geschichte abschließt aber noch 2 bände dann kamen.. aber schon interessant ihn einfach rauszustreichen - den kann sich doch nicht der Übersetzer ausgedacht haben??

Hab grad genau verglichen, der hat sich da einiges ausgedacht!
Also nicht ganz ausgedacht, aber die deutsche Übersetzung unterscheidet sich in ein paar wesentlichen Punkten, die die Story auf was ganz anderes rausläufen läßt!

Ist zb ein wesentlicher unterschied ob Arthur den h2g2 nicht mehr BRAUCHT oder nicht mehr WILL!

also das Ende ist ja ziemlich geändert, von der Perspektive!


However, I had a different question: How would you characterize the man who rules the universe? I'm not definitely sure with my interpretation/thoughts... and I'll have to concentrate on detailed describtions of the important characters...
I'd be very grateful if you could tell me a little bit more about that!

If I keep coming over here, I might start understanding some of the language....although, I must admit, my Spainish lessons aren't helping any at all!

LOL ... well, there seems to be a whole passage MORE in the German translation than in the original .... or was it one LESS?. I'll really have to buy the English version some day.

As to the Man who rules the universe ... I have not read the books for quite a while but I'd say it's obvious that the reader expects to "meet" a God-like creature ... and is presented with a rather silly old man who gives all the important questions to his cat, which is called GOTT (God, I hope, in English). God of course is not really interested in ruling the world but just behave as ordinary cats do.

Still, when Arthur and Co. leave the old man they say that the universe is obviously in safe hands. Also, the old man is not really silly, but rather reminds one of a Zen monk. He take nothing for granted, he has no fixed or trained ideas about how to use pen or paper, for example. He is experimenting with these things, though, and if the way he finds to use it is not the one which is obvious for you and me, well, that does rather mor speak against us than against him. But of course there are a lot of people in the world who have a rather narrow minded idea about how things should be done, how things should be used and ao on, and of course quite a lot of religious
people are very narrow minded about their "one truth".

So, I would say that this Ruler of the Universe is a definitely more humble spirit than a lot of our current religions would suggest and more humble than most of their followers. He is totally unaware of, and therefore uncorrupted by his power. Imagine a religious fanatic who learns that his "God" is a man like this, or even worse, due to some misunderstanding, only a cat
