Lies, Damned Lies, and George Bush
Lentilla (Keeper of Non-Sequiturs) Posted Jan 25, 2002
Tsk, tsk, Looney. All the money in the world won't make her husband feel any better about losing his wife. And in our current economical situation, we all work - nobody can afford to be a stay-at-home mom any more.
Having said that, I will respond to Alex by saying that a morally reprehensible act can be both audacious and ingenious. Sixty years ago, you would have made the mistake of calling Hitler an idiot. Evil vicious b*****d? Yes, indeed. Fool? Heck, no.
But you won't read that, because you've unsubscribed. Ah, well.

"Nobody can afford to be a stay-at-home mom any more"
I suspect this only applies to the American serf class. ie: 90 per cent of all Americans
So much for the American dream.

> "So why give that very same impression in your first posting?"
Do you realise that 'reckless' is a pejoratative term? Do you realise that Guy Fawkes was a traitor and a failed mass murderer? You got an impression from my posting that was wrong and unjustified by the words written. That's your problem, not mine.
Incidentally, Guy Fawkes is remembered in literature, song, documentaries, movies, fireworks, and socking great big bonfires. Partly for his treason, and partly for his bravery. I'm afraid flaming people because you don't understand something they wrote is a poor way to get an education.
> "Some people cannot 'get on' with their lives, like my friend's friends and family."
If phrases like 'get back to their normal lives' offend you so much, why come complaining at me? It's something that lots of people in the USA have been saying for ages - yet you come here and bitch at me for saying the same thing. Why not vent your anger at Bush, who's said precisely the same thing, far more often, far more publically?
Point is, your initial attack was unfounded, and now you're scrabbling around desperately for something else I may have said that you can somehow claim is offensive. Well, it's pathetic. If you're really that easily offended, then you deserve to be offended and offended often. Intolerance is its own punishment.

Lucinda, Months later I have only just now come across this conversation and at the risk of being misunderstood, I have to say that I agree with you very much!
We know now, the WTC death toll was 3000+/- 5 or so. I'm not saying they don't matter, of course, they do. But the civilian death toll in Afghanistan is 3800+ last I heard. There was a letter to the editor in a local magazine talking about just this - how many 'other' lives does it take to equal one American?

Echelon. Bomb. Terror. Communism. Guns. Wow, those are the only ones I remember... Any spies looking?

I never have understood why people talk to each other on the Internet in ways they never would in real life. Especially on the issues that have come up since Sept. 11th. Lots of very sensitive people out there...
