h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

2009 is going to be a good year. I've decided this.

In order to insure this I am going to make two commitments to myself - call them resolutions if you will: I will approach each day with a positive attitude and I will avoid reacting - or refusing to react - out of fear.

I have great expectations and mean to see them fulfilled.

Good commitments! Elliot has paid me to say you should also resolve to buy him tuna fish more often.

A former colleague of mine lived by the 4x5 rule:

First 5 minutes that you wake up in the morning, stay in bed, stretch, relax, plot the general lay-out of the day.

First 5 minutes at work, do not check your mail but lean back in your chair planning your day.

First 5 minutes back at home, take a deep breath and just relax. Nothing else.

First 5 minutes when you've gone to bed, try to empty your head by jotting down any thoughts/ideas/must-dos and promise yourself you'll deal with them tomorrow. Stretch. Relax.

Ti, I couldn't handle that, because I'm definitely governed by inertia. Once I get home, for example, if I sit down and relax, dinner will not get made
