Mr Jack

I feel bluer than stilton.

I'm still bluer than Norwegian Blue parrot. Even one pining for fjords. Still maybe having some pasta with cheddar grated over it will pick me. Doubt it though. I've been here for a while now... no-one has spoken to me...smiley - wah

Hello.smiley - smileysmiley - hug

You've put me in mind of Belgian Blues. They're cattle--from Belgium, apparently--and they're a sort of off-white with veiny-looking blue patches, much like a stilton. I know, I know, you think I'm talking gibberish. I did used to farm cattle, though, you know.

Well, anyway... I see by your thread title that you probably enjoy a bit of Neil Gaiman from time to time.smiley - winkeyesmiley - fullmoon

Hello Snailrind...
smiley - yikeshttp://www.belgianblue.co.uk/ Odd looking beasts... I'd not even hear dof them before.
When I was less than four years old I remember feeding what to me appeared to be this massive Charolais bull on my mother's farm. Apparently he wasn't really so big, but to me he was a giant.

I love Neil Gaiman. I saw the Neverwhere TV series and despite it's low budget was really captured by the magic of it. But it was ages before I finally got around to acquiring his books, but when I did I was blown away by his writing.
Do you wonder if it was DNA that inspired 'American Gods'? It like a more serious and darker version 'Long Dark Tea Time Of The Soul'.
I began investing in volumes of The Sandman library after meeting Glen Fabry, who drew the story of Destruction in 'Endless Nights'. It was reading that which convinced me that the stories and artwork of the The Sandman made it something more than 'just a comic'.

smiley - yikesThose Belgian Blues don't look much like the ones we had. This is more the sort of thing: http://www.artbyforster.com/belgnb-01.htm. Only with more white.

Charolais (Charolaises? Charolaix?) are my favourite cattle. In the mist, they look like ghostly behemoths. And they can grow pretty huge--balls the size of a man's head, some of 'em. So I doubt the bull you met was really on your mother's arm.smiley - silly

Lovely docile creatures they are.

Having only just learned of the existence of American Gods, I can't give an opinion, sadly. I was a little disappointed by Neverwhere, because I'd read the Sandman books first, and they were better. (Like you, they blew me away.) But I do remember being really amused by the posters in the tube station in Neverwhere, which all said things like, "jump--your life is worthless."

Did you meet Glen Fabry at a convention?

Mr Jack

Neverwhere is the Gaiman novel I've read the most number of times. When Richard is going through the ordeal there's a line that goes 'Your life is an empty loveless shame' or something similar. That one gets to me sometimes.

I met Fabry at a convention in the Republic of Ireland. He wasn't really that cool of a guy as I remember... Couldn't hold his drink and could act like a bit of prat*.
But yeah, met him at a con and since he was selling copies of Endless Nights and signing them i decided top part with my Euros and get a copy. I'd been interested in reading the Sandman stuff for sometime, but money had been a problem, so getting signed work was the excuse I needed.

*Consider this sentance disclaimered.

Now that I'm wearing my specs, I see the Charolais was on your mother's *farm* and not on her *arm*.smiley - doh

Maybe I'm not thinking on Neverwhere. There was a TV series I saw, written by Gaiman, about a surreal version of the London Underground. Was that Neverwhere?

That's a hell of a line to identify with.smiley - sadface
Lately, it's been schmaltz that's been getting to me, which is really quite embarrassing. When Bart Simpson says stuff like, "I love you, Santa's Little Helper," I have to leave the room before my face crumples into a gurn. People being nice to each other for no reason. That gets me.smiley - wahsmiley - blush

Here are a few lines I identify with--they're from an Incredible String Band song:

The purple sail above me catches all the strength of summer.
Fishes stop and ask me where I am bound.
I smile and shake my head and say my little ship is sinking,
But I kind of like the sea that I'm on, and I don't mind if I do drown.

Mr Jack

I wondered if that were a dilibrate mistake...smiley - winkeye

No, you are thinking of Neverwhere... Lenny Henry asked Gaiman to write something involving the homeless. Gaiman came up with Neverwhere, [he was wworryed he might write something that would make homelessness look cool,] Neverwhere was made on tight budget and Gaiman turned the script into a novel. The Ordeal Of The Key is the part with the posters on Blackfriars station, where Richard is encouraged to kill himself.

It's not the only line I identify with in that part of the book. There are lines about him having no friends and being a joke etc, they tie in with core beliefs about my reality.

I have the same thing with schmaltzy stuff. It hurts me to see it. That stuff fills the TV scedules at Christams which is part of why I find it so hard. You're s'posed to be happy, and surrounded by friends and loved ones...
I cried when I watched Shrek, which started me on my spiral down this Christmas, because I identify with Shrek, he's big, ugly and lonely. And not only is is it a comedy and a satire it's also a romance and romances aren't good when you are struggling with to control your smiley - brokenheart

I don't know if I can stay with this new space. I had to leave the other one. Too many unwelcome lurkers that don't keep to lurking. Too many people that patently don't have clue about... I've reread the 'Repulsive' thread with a cool head, when I wasn't suicidal and hurting and what people said was still insulting. Still unhelpful. Still showing a complete ignorance of who I am and what I live, think, feel and do.
I posted in anger. I felt betrayed by those that I thought should haveknow that what Serephina Az said was inappropriate and damaging. And Kaz coming along and acting like she's be my friend for years, when she doesn't know me at all.
But I think too many people will have realised this is my new space. I did too much with it too soon. I don't know if it is possible for me to remain on this site and not be recognised, especially if I try to keep ties with those that haven't shown themselves untrustworthy. I don't know how to cut hootoo out of my life... I don't really have somewhere else to go.
I've been feeling like I don't really know who I am anymore without people pushing their own false perceptions on me, without trying to invent a new identity to remain on this site... *sigh* I'm waffling.
Stealth Kamanchi is who I am, it's more my name than the name I was given. I created that identity for myself more than 2 years ago. Got rid of the identity I had asumed to try and protect myself [unsuccessfully] through school and college.

I thought I was the only one to have spotted you here. I was pleased to have found you so quickly (it was by accident), as I can really get my teeth into a convo with you--you talk about such a wide range of subjects. I hoped that I'd avoided saying anything dumb to your other persona and could carry on chatting to you for a wee bit longer.

Are you going back to your old space, then, or making a clean break? Or are you still deciding?

Like you, I find that too much h2g2 makes me feel lonely, though probably for different reasons. I find it difficult to interact with RL people, but I go spare if I don't; h2g2 doesn't fill that gap quite the same.

I do like your previous name. I quite see that you'd want to stick with it. But, I mean, there are other places out there that are like h2g2--this one, for instance: http://www.livejournal.com. (Though getting away from opinionated people is another thing. I always try to be patient with the well-meaning--after all, they mean well-- but oh boy, your anger was inspiring!smiley - biggrin I'd like to tell a few people just how insulting their assumptions are.)

I'm on my third persona. I used to be Sideliner, and before that, Johnny Nofriends. But Snailrind is *me*, ya know? _<@o"

So anyway, goodbye and all the best, or hello and welcome back (whichever).smiley - hug

A break with the old space still seems to be in order... I don't know that can leave hootoo though.
I'm fairly sure Scandrea knows I'm using this space and maybe some others... Perhaps those that do know I'm here will mind there own affairs or stick to lurking invisibly.
I talk to few people in RL. Those I'm in someway obliged to talk to mostly. I rarely enjoy it, but it does help to stop the true madness setting in I s'pose.

The live journal seem to be experiencing problems...

What kinda bleurgh-ness is it?

Top-to-toe bleurghness. It's my own fault. I ate a load of chocolate biscuits, and I've got a rather serious intolerance to them. They were just *there*, and, well, they were chocolatey.

I haven't been able to poo for three days. I've got cramps and twitches and itches and bloats, and acute thrush, and minor hallucinations. I'm greasy and spotty and feeble and sore and sick. I prepared a scorching hot water bottle to tackle the cramps, and now I have a pretty fretwork of burn blisters across my abdomen. I feel like a sack of offal.

I've been very silly.

But they were sooo chocolatey....smiley - drool

Anyway, I'm a bit better today, and I've found some more blog sites. I've no idea how good they are, but here are the links. I think the first one may appeal to you.

I cannot over-emphasise the importance of drinking enough water each day - at least a litre! You'll be amazed at the improvement in your skin, pooing, energy.....

Well, I, erm hope it was worth it for the chocolatety goodness... Doesn't seem that it would be...
Hope you're feeling much better now.
And I'll take a look at those and see if I think I'm interested... So these aren't personally recommended sites?

Well since you brought up movements, I was suffering from a possibly lack of roughage in my diet for a few day last week. It was like someone had shoved their hand up there and was trying pull their clenched fist out.

D'you know, I've gone right off chocolatey goodness.

LuckyStar - yes indeed, water is a miracle-worker, isn't it? I'm normally a health freak, but those biscuits got the better of me. I shan't make that mistake twice.

I had four poos in one day. Four! Four different types, too, ranging from Breeze Block to Semolina.

I'm feeling much better now, thanks.smiley - biggrin

The only one of those blog sites I read is the livejournal one: I know someone on there. It seems quite good, but you can't write articles and stuff. I was going to recommend http://www.deviantart.com/, because people can post all sorts of creative stuff on it - unfortunately, blogs don't seem to be an option.

Sorry to hear about your lack of roughage. Time to break out the All-bran, eh?

The moment I realised that it could be a roughage issue I bought some Alpen.
I've become a 'Deviant' maybe that will inspire to do something creative for once.
