h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

At lunchtime I happened to accompany my friend Rikki to the canteen (usually I don't bother going all the way over there, but he fancied a hot meal) and because Rikki's in a wheelchair we were going out the 'in' way, and some tall big-nosed bloke in a black t-shirt apologised for getting in our way. My first thought was 'oh, that was nice of him' and my second was 'hang on, that was Christopher Eccleston!'.

I was far more star-struck the time I bumped into Michael Fish, mind. Younger celebrities don't impress me much.

For those of us of a certain age, The Doctor will always be either Wlliam Hartnell or Patrick Troughton Maybe Jon Pertwee, and perhaps Tom Baker.

Well, I've never been particularly into Doctor Who? Saturday afternoons I was more of an A-Team sort of kid. Now if it had been Mr T, I'd have dropped me dinner!

Besides, despite working where I do, I don't see many non-sporting celebrities...

ooohhh.... how exciting! I'd have loved that. The best I was was Charlie from Ground Force. Although I did have some emails from a couple of celebs, they weren't really talking to me, just moaning about moderation.

Well, I'm impressed! I'm really, really looking forward to seeing the new show on Saturday. The clips I've seen look great, they've got good writers in, and I think Mr Eccleston will make a fine Doctor.

I'm intrigued. Can you say which ones?

Yes, I don't see why not. One was Monty Don, and the other was Jonny Walker. BBC celebs, rather than Brad Pit types, but still. I was very excited about Monty, being a bit of a gardener and all that. And liked him better than Alan Titchmarsh on Gardener's World.

Typical. No-one famous ever comes here. That bloke from M Family was born just down the road, but he soon got out.
Incidently, Colin Baker *is* the Doctor. Accept no imitations
