I think I'm beginning to come to a unified theory on this one. There are many things in life. Or, to be more accurate, there are /too/ many things in life. And every day, every decision you make, is deciding _between_ things. In deciding these things, you decide - in some, possibly minute, way - who you are. And if you look at these decisions, you find yourself. And to find yourself is to find the meaning of your life. But there's always more to decide, and there's always more to find out about yourself. And in the end that _is_ the purpose of life. To find yourself.
So remember that, when you're running out of time. If we had all the time in the world, we'd never find a purpose. Because if we had time, we'd choose everything and nothing. And we'd never know who we could be.
Time: The healer of wounds.
Time: The sealer of fates.
Time: The stealer of pland.
Time: The maker of who we are.

Mmmmm.... very Buddist


But I'd have to disagree with you on most of that...

...Like, what happens when you've found yourself? What then?... Surely to say that the answers lie within, is pure nievity... If they do, shouldn't you already know them?
Couldn't you go through life making all the "right" decisions and doing all the "right" things, having found who you are, got bored of that once you get to around 70, then just die? Seems very odd to me...
And isn't time, mearly the perpetual stabilisation of energy, rather than a conceptual aspect of the mind? Cognito ergo sum, is all very well and good. But denies the pure fact that, whether you think or not, your still there!

My opinion is that life's too amusing to be chance, and to free to be fate. Thus the only other option left is divinity, which makes sense if you look at the world... with all it's coinsidences

Anyway, I'm rambling...

I agree that if you found yourself completely, you would eventually become bored,possibly. But you never CAN: there is no final answer; it is constantly changing, from the interaction of the rest of the world. That is what we mean by time: the constant shifting of the goal. Hence if we could stop time, there would be an answer, we could find it, and we would have nothing left to do.
But as it is, there is no right answer, because yesterday's right answer is tomorrow's irrelevancy. All we can do, by deciding *something*, is to find our way towards a current answer.
If we never stop and think about our choices, we will drift directionless in the social world, but if we think what we do, we can find a purpose to at least pretend to adhere to...

...or something.

True, if your using your preconceived view of the universe, and of time, and it's cause and effects. But what if something was outside of time? And what if there was "an answer"??? What would your view be then? Surely if you knew that, then THAT wouldn't be what you were looking for anymore, you would be seeking something else, or rather seeking to put something into this life, and the people around you. Rather than constantly trying to search for "the answers" in an mono-universalistic mentality... (is that really a word?... doubt it, but HEY! What do I care, I'm dyslexic, it's my job to abuse this language in a purely "still better than what the americans did to it" kinda way!

Anyway, do you ever pop into town much? I work in a shop in town called Silvertrek (Outdoor adventure, climbing etc...), it's between Virgin Megastores, and Argos, opposite Pizzahut on the oxford road... drop by any week day, as I don't work weekends... If not, then I'll give you a visit if you like...
