h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Well ive been posting on these boards now for about 3 weeks and i want to put those fancy pictures and moving words in my Personal Space, but every time i go into Guide ML nothing works i follow the instructions and have Cut & Pasted things but when i preview it all i get is 'illegal use of (a really long word)' all over my text & what ive C&P just comes in text

Now i hoping that our Founder Disco Stu been the whizz he is will be able to help me

I know this is probably not what your supposed to write in here but....well....yeah i'm a saddo this is the only thing i can write about cos i dont do anything else like drink, smoke, go out pubbing/clubbing.

It is a bit imtimidating at first. All will become clear though!

A good way to start is to look at the code other people have written for their pages. This can be done by typing http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/testuserpage followed by the researcher's Personal Space number.

ie for me (816232):

or for Deakie (857383):

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/testuserpage857383

You can alse do this for guide entries. For our home page it would be:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/test3678410

Take a look through those pages and you should get a general idea of what to do. A good way of creating your personal space would be to copy and paste the code from mine or Deakie's personal space into yours, and then delete what you dont want and add the bits you do want. Remember your code must start with:


Put a subject in here Nik!



and finish with




Have a go and if you're still having probs then copy and paste the code you are trying to use into this conversation and I'll let you know where you are going wrong.

Dear Nik::...I think in your Journal="it's yours" and you can write about anything you want to....How you feel,think, or lost car keys....I also would love to fix up my space...Thought I would be abe to cope with it on News years eve...But it seems very time consumming...I'll sure read over Disco Stu's advise...My son shakes his head at doing it this way and asks why can't you use "canvas"...??
