h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Well I have now completed my first week of work at HP. I am a process operator at their print head clean room. Yes indeed I do wear the full "bunny suit" and there is lots for me to learn about this process. It seems to take a long time still for me to put on this suit in their dressing rooms and we wear them for no more than four hours at a time before we leave and take a break.

HP is going through a re-organization and many of the people I meet will be gone within a short time. They have been provided severance packages and the individuals seem to be resigned to a new way of doing things. While last week I spent late night hours (11pm 7am.) This coming week I will be on days, training with the technicians and engineers. I was told that my many relocations have been the major problem that I was experiencing and there is little I can do about that now except stick around for as long as I can. I have been helped by my family in enduring this long unemployed status but now it is over. I hope that I can manage to make this employment one of the longer ones of my career. HP still seems like one of the great electronics companies and this is much of value for me here.

I'll stay in touch with you off and on and hopefully I will find a retirement from here after a long engagement.

How's the job going? Do the people there seem pretty decent to work with?

My shift leader is vietnamese and the bunny suits make me sweat but everything seems ok with these provisoes.

HP is planning on closing the plant in two years sooooo.....
Also the pay scale is marginal (seems I would take this job anyway though). I'm working on nights also.

There are people all around me who are expected to leave soon (as of May 31st, others as late as August)so there are some attitude cases.

Other than these there are no complaints
