Hi new researcher, my name is Andy and I am an ACE here on h2g2. This stands for Assistant Community Editor - it's our job to welcome new researchers to the site and make them feel at home. There are loads of ACEs and we're all helpful and friendly. Click here to find out more :Aces A214796

You can update your Personal Space at any time by clicking 'Edit Page'. For tips on spicing up your user page, click here A690518. If you want to see what other people have written on theirs, click their name at the top of a conversation posting.

A really quick way to jazz up your user page or conversations is with the many smileyssmiley - batsmiley - roflsmiley - laughsmiley - cheerssmiley - smileyTo see the whole list and how to use them, click here: Smiley

If you haven't done so already, you could check out the Welcome page A53146 or catch a and take the DontPanic-Tour A317459 . This page may also be useful as it is written especially for beginners A719840. By the way, if you're confused about any of the words or terms used around the site, try looking them up in the h2g2 Glossary A901829.

There are three main things you can do on h2g2 - you can read what others have written, you can talk A451522 to the rest of the community, or you can write your own entries for others to read A462485 : Writing-Beginners A686595 If you want something to read you could try h2g2's own weekly newspaper ThePost A1161695 which is full of cool articles, stories and cartoons. Or if you feel really daring, you could try a RandomEditedEntry A147007 Who knows what you'll end up with!

Well hopefully that should be enough to get you started. If you have any questions or just want to chat, click reply and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Or go to the Ace's homepage using the link above and ask there! Someone will be more than happy to help!

In the meantime, have some smiley - tea& a slice ofsmiley - cake , explore the site and enjoy yourself

Thanks for the welcomes. Of course "Jerseyite" could be the Isle of Jersey or New Jersey. In my case, it is New Jersey, USA.

I just submitted my first article:

A3144872 The History of Magnetic Recording

Of course, I may be the only person interested in this topic but I liked writing it anyway.smiley - biggrin

Good luck in peer review. I think you will find there are other parties interested in your chosen topic here. Researchers have diverse interests.

I have very fond memories of Douglass. Particularily the 2 semesters I tried dating the whole Second Floor North of Katzenbach Hall.

I lived in Katzenbach for three years. smiley - bigeyes Second floor was '74/'75 as I recall.

That was a bit before my time, I was '82. After the Katzenbach year, a number of my Douglass friends moved to the Henderson Apartments and Corwin so I moved with them. If it wasn't for Douglass, the whole College of Engineering would have drowned taking cold showers. smiley - cool

I'm impressed that you did engineering and managed a social life. Although I guess I shouldn't be... my husband went to NJIT and he had a social life. It revolved around beer rather than women, though, since there was a dearth of women.
